Gary Mullins Obituary
Mr. Mullins was born Chattanooga and raised in Pensacola., Florida. He graduated from Tate High School in 1969 in Cantonment, Florida where he served as Senior Class President and was Mr. Tate High School. He returned to Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee where he belonged to the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He retired as a Supervisor Deputy US Marshal belonging to SOG (special operations group). Gary was a member of Burks UMC, New Beginnings Sunday School Class, past president of the Soddy Daisy Quarterback Club, and also coached with the Red Bank Dixie Youth Baseball and YMCA youth football.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, H. F. "Speck" Dunaway; and grandparents, Fred and Ida Mullins and Walter and Nora Ann Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Karen Mullins; sons, Curtis and Michael Mullins; parents, Curtis and Willadean Mullins; brother, Fred (Patti Baillie) Mullins; sisters, Teresa (Camp) Wynn and Lisa Mullins (Paul) Barretto; mother-in-law, Ruth B. Dunaway; sister-in-law, Tami (Dan) Traczek; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2012 at Burks United Methodist Church (6429 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343) and visitation from 12 to 1 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be US Deputy Marshals, John Bieber, Jim Fowler, Dan Ogle, Ron Gibbs, Mike Fugate and Bob Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Whaley, Rodney Fisher and Jeff Hedden.
Memorial donations may be made to Burks UMC, Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343

My Prayers are with the Mullins Family for their loss of Gary. Gary and I were friends in high school and graduated at the same time. I am so proud to learn after all this years He did well in life. God Bless you Gary and to all His Family and Friends.

Our condolences in the loss of your son Gary. We remember him as such a sweet boy. From the obituary he was so much more, and a son to be proud of. It is hard to lose a child but a comfort to know he is with the Lord and he leaves such a legacy for your family.

I was so sorry to hear about Gary. I was in SOG with both Gary and Fred. We nicknamed him Round Man. Most people would not remember that from the old days in SOG
I truly believe that Round Man is in a far better place now.

A Great Guy. I worked one of my first Special Assignments after FLETC in Knoxville teamed up with Gary and Doug Haws. It was a tragic case but, with those two - I had a great time. We next teamed up around Thanksgiving 1978 in Jackson, MS at SOG Basic where they had injuries and I a medical issue. We got together a few more times on SOG, WitSec or CourtSec Assignments until Doug got ill. I'll miss them both deeply. Karen, my wife Cheryl and I met you with Gary crossing Canal Street in New Orleans a couple of years back during the Association Get Together. Our thoughts and Prayers will be with you and the rest of Gary's Family.

I am sorry for your loss. Gary and I were team mates in baseball and football from little league through high school. He was a great friend and ball player. Karen, I have great memories of Gary and our time at UT living together in "prime" housing. He was a good guy; the best. We did not have much when we were students, but we lived like "royalty".

I send my deepest condolence as you go through this difficult period. I had the priviledge of meeting and working with both Gary and Fred as fellow Special Operations Group (SOG), U.S. Deputy Marshals. A true profesional, a kind, and gental soul was Gary. I first met the Mullins brothers when I joined the USMS Special Operations Group in 1984. I remember they were both quite the characters. Over the next five years I had the privledge to work with Gary on many occassions at the SOG facility and on several special assignments. I enjoyed Gary's company but most of all his sense of humor and genuine friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with the Mullins family.

Our hearts are broken to hear of the loss of Gary. He was such a wonderful man and always willing to lend a hand or take charge of whatever needed to be done. Karen and Family, we are sad today for the loss of a great friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so glad I got to see Gary at our reunion. I will always remember the good times we had together growing up. He was the only guy on our team who could throw the ball from third to first in the ninth grade. In the 1969 yearbook, we were going to bust through the homecoming banner together until I pushed him out of the way and got a full picture in the yearbook and of course Gary was mad but always a friend. I went to North Alabama on a fb scholarship and Gary went to Tennessee and he actually was on the field more than I. Wil never be forgotten.
