Gary Alan Schaumburg, 68 years old, of Mayville, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls after a courageous 6 year battle with ALS. A visitation will be held Friday, December 16 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Mayville. Inurnment will take place at the Kekoskee Cemetery in Kekoskee. Gary was born the son of Clarence and Ruth (Blank) Schaumburg on August 11, 1948 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Beaver Dam. He was a 1967 graduate of Mayville High School. He was united in marriage to Renate Tolzmann on June 28, 1975 at the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. He was first employed on the family farm in rural Mayville and then went on to work for Sure Fire, Inc. for over 32 years until his retirement. He was also a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church in Mayville. He was also a member of ALS- Wisconsin Chapter and the friends of the Horicon Marsh. Gary was known for being great with his hands. He was a skilled woodworker, carpenter, and wood carver. He carved duck decoys and restored all furniture. He was also great with his hands when it came to gardening and landscaping. Gary was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed nature whether it was camping, hiking, or hunting. While out in nature he also enjoyed collecting fossils, geodes, and other ancient Native American artifacts and civil war and WWII artifacts. Gary also loved to learn and enjoyed history and sciences. He had a love for animals as well and it almost seemed he shared a connection with them, especially cats. He will fondly be remembered also for his sense of humor and dry wit. Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years- Renate of Mayville. His mother- Ruth Schaumburg of Beaver Dam. His children- Emilie (Adam Springer) Schaumburg of Appleton and Wilhelm Schaumburg of Milwaukee. His sisters- Diane (Peter Mosbach) Schaumburg of Boston, Karen (Alan) Bodden of Beaver Dam.
