Gary Schumacher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2011.
Gary Bernard Schumacher
age 69, of Navarre, passed away Wednesday evening at Mercy Medical Center in Canton following a 15-month struggle with Myasthenia Gravis. Born Feb. 17, 1942, in Canton, Ohio, to George and Mary (Mastrangelo) Schumacher, Gary graduated from Glenwood High School in 1960 and Tri-State University in 1963. He was a mechanical engineer. During his career he was a draftsman, designer, project engineer, quality control manager/inspector, and after working for several local companies, Gary began his own business in 1989. He was owner and CEO of SKS Fabrication & Machine in Cuyahoga Falls, SKS Diversified Products & Engineering, and SKS Ground Support in North Canton and Massillon. He was an inventor and holder of 26 patents. A pilot of both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, he loved owning and flying his helicopter in his spare time. He also enjoyed hunting Indian artifacts, hunting, fishing and hiking. Preceded in death by his father who passed away Dec. 23, 1994,
Gary is survived by his mother, Mary, of Canton; his wife of 46 years, Bonnie (Blackburn) Schumacher; a son, Eric and wife, Melissa Schumacher of Navarre; daughters, Nicole and husband, Robert Windemuth of Louisville, and Kathryn Peterson of Michigan; grandchildren, Jason, Allison and Brianna Schumacher of Navarre, and Rachel Windemuth of Louisville; and a sister, Sandra and husband, Ralph Kenville of Canton. There are several aunts and uncles surviving, and the family is grateful to his Uncle Frank and Aunt Violet who kept Gary company for so many hours while he was in the hospital and the nursing home during the past year. Most important, he is survived by his most precious Jetta, whom he loved with all his heart. Gary enjoyed his life with few regrets.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2011, from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm, with funeral services beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel. To share a fond memory and sign the online guest book, please visit
