My husband Dr. Johnny Holmes, current Physic Professor and former Dean of School of Sciences at CBU, spoke well of Gary. I, too, had an occasion to talk Gary once on a cold winter day. He and the maintenance crew were repairing a broken pipe on a building near the School of Sciences. We were commenting on how wet and cold it can be in Memphis, as compared to out west. I was a psychology major at CBU at the time. I grew up in Montana. I told my husband Johnny that even Gary agreed with me that winters in the south are worse than winters out west because of the humidity. I enjoy my brief visit with him. Johnny and I send our condolences to you. Sincerely, Dr. Johnny and Sharon Holmes

Gary was honest about himself and undeniably a character. At the same time he was a solution seeker with know-how and craftsmanship who admirably stepped forward to accomplish solutions regardless of difficulty and undesirability.

Gary, I loved working with you at CBU. I enjoyed our laughs, our work and your kindness and humor. Rest in peace, Dear Friend, and go see Daddy and give him my love.

Blessed to know you.

Gary was an artist who used life as his canvas, always coming up with new colours(hat tip to the international scope of his palette), a kalidescope of ever changing hues and lines(mostly zingers) that left us breathless, wanting more, inventive and evocative, a renaissance man who could shift gears as smoothly as quote , "owl poop on a brass door knob", unquote. We were soldiers once, and young. Love you

Dear Members of Gary's family: I was truly sorry to learn of Gary's death. While I was at CBU, I always found Gary to be a person full of life and always willing to lend a hand to any project. I loved his sense of humor. He will certainly be in my prayers.

Blessings to all of you,
