Gary Witt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2024.
Gary L. Witt, age 84, of Sheboygan, passed away on August 7, 2024 at Sharon L. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls following a decades long, hard-fought battle with prostate cancer. His resilient spirit defied the odds far longer than his initial prognosis.

Gary was born December 11, 1939 in Easton Township, Adams County, Wisconsin to Harry and Elsie Witt (Juse). The area always held a special place in his heart, and the childhood adventures he shared with his brothers Ernest and Dennis, and dog Perp fueled a lifelong love for the outdoors. He enjoyed returning to the area as often as he could.

He married Terri Kujawa of White Creek, not too far from his hometown, on Oct. 6, 1972, and became the devoted father of four children - Shawn, Shannon, Shelley, & Shad.

Gary served in the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany as a cartographer, where he developed a fondness for the culture, and especially the beer. His dream was to be an artist, but after realizing that it would be difficult to make a living of it, he took an apprenticeship and began work as an electrician at the Tecumseh die-casting plant in Sheboygan Falls until it closed in 2003.

Gary was blessed to enjoy a long retirement during which he rekindled his love for the outdoors, especially fishing and camping in the Kettle Moraines. He was a voracious reader and loved to learn, particularly bible related studies. He even taught himself Hebrew to gain a deeper understanding of the Word. He also enjoyed rollercoasters, backroad drives, and car races. He was a quiet, kind, humble man who lived by modest means. Despite adversity in health and life, he always maintained a quirky sense of humor and was quick to smile.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie, former spouse Terri, son Shawn, and brother Ernest.

Survivors include daughters Shannon Witt of Sheboygan and Shelley Witt of the Wisconsin Dells, son Shad Witt of Sheboygan, grandchildren Sara, Julie, Aubrey, Braydon, Anaiah, Isaiah & Ashton, brother Dennis Witt of Winter, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

Gary's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Matthews and the staff at Matthews Oncology as well as Sharon Richardson Hospice for all of their care and support, which was nothing short of exceptional.

The family will be holding a private remembrance for Gary.
