Wow, I would have written something a long time ago if I knew about this. Dad, you were amazing in so many ways but the most important amazing thing about you was that you were an awesome dad, you were my dad. You were an incredibly awesome soccer player and later on you started coaching and you were the guiding light to so many young soccer players. I just want you to know I absolutely love and miss you in every way. ❤

GARY WOODWARDS BIO
Gary was born and raised in West Chester, Pa.
Gary attended the Demonstration School which was located on the Campus of West Chester State Teachers College.
Gary attended South Jr. High where he played Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball.
Gary played baseball in the West Side Little League where he caught for Jon Matlack.
Gary played Soccer for the U15 Chester County All Stars under the coaching of Joe Leitner and Alan Oliver.
Gary attended West Chester Joint Sr. High School and played 3 years of Soccer, 2 years of Basketball, and 3 years of Baseball, and had a batting average of 360 his senior year.
Gary received the GOLD W for playing two varsity sports his senior year.
Gary won the State Championship in Soccer in 1966.
Gary Scored 24 goals in 16 games his Senior year.

Gary Woodward
(Inducted Oct. 2, 1993)
Gary Woodward was inducted into the Hall of Fame on October 2, 1993. A 1972 Campbell graduate, Woodward is the most prolific scorer in both school and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) men's soccer history.
He scored a national record 117 goals while playing for Coach Jim "Catfish" Cole's teams from 1968-71. Woodward also produced 78 assists in only 67 career games.
A three-time All-South performer, Woodward led the NAIA District 29 in scoring in each of his four varsity seasons. He led the Camels to their first-ever berths in the NAIA National Tournament in 1969 with a fifth place finish and again in 1970 with a third place finish.

Gary Woodward (1968-71, Norristown, Pa.) leading goal scorer (117) in NAIA history; 3-time, 1st-team All-South Region and All-District 29 team (1969, 1970, 1971); MVP of 1970 and 1971 Area 5 tournament; Set school goal scoring records that still stand in 1970 (35) and 1971 (38); 3 District 29 titles (1969-71), 2 Area V championships (1969-70); 5th in 1969 NAIA national tournament and 3rd in 1970; Campbell Sports Hall of Fame member.
Gary Played on the Norfolk International in 1973.Gary started Coaching Recreational Soccer in the Richmond, Va. Area in 1981. In 1982 Dave Amsler moved Gary to coach a travel team named the Richmond Strikers. Gary coached them for 4 years and won the State Championship in 1987.Gary took over another team in 1988 and they were ranked 8th in the state, he coached them for 4 years. One player from his team went Professional with Real Salt Lake ( NASL ) in 1972. Gary himself was drafted by Kansas City Chiefs ( NASL ) in 1972. Gary had 12 of his U17 players go Division 1 in College, and 3 went Division 3 in College. Gary ran the Jefferson Cup in 1983. Gary started with 87 teams participating. By 1995 there were 500 teams participating. Gary ran the Jefferson Cup from 1987-2000. In 1992 Gary started with a U11 boys team and kept that same team until they were U17 at which time they won the State Championship in 1998.
Gary Left behind a daughter Ashley who he thought the world of. He left Pa. to go back to Virginia to take care of Ashley. Besides his daughter Gary left behind two grandsons. Prior to his grandsons birth Gary had lost a granddaughter at birth. Rest In Peace Teammate, we accomplished a lot on the front line while playing Soccer at Campbell. I hope you are having some fun with your Mom and Step dad in Heaven.

Gary's positive attitude and enthusiasm was contagious to all around him at the State Farm agency where he worked part time. I won't forget the endless stories about soccer and the life insurance business. He will he missed

Gary was an all-time great soccer player at Campbell in the late 60s-early 70s. He concluded his career with an NAIA national record 117 goals. Throughout his time working as a coach and in retirement, he continued to stay in touch with his alma mater and support Fighting Camel soccer. He will be missed!
