Gary Zimmerman Obituary

Tampa - Gary David Zimmerman was born on February 13, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana to David Zimmerman and Micky Blackwell Wilson Zimmerman and died on July 12, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Brusly High School, attended LSU, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1970. He traveled the world with the Sixth Fleet where he repaired electronics on jets on the USS Independence, among other adventures. He lived his happiest years in Riverside, New Jersey where he met and married Karen Altoonian. They lived there until Karen's passing in 2021. Gary retired to Florida after years working in electronics including as Technical Support Engineer at Kalbro Corporation, Field Engineer at Telos Corporation, and Affymetrix. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law Bob & Virginia Wilson and extended family in Louisiana; sister and brother-in-law Susan and Craig Stanley in Tampa, Florida; Karen's twin sister Connie Huber and brother-in-law Gary Altoonian; and extended family in New Jersey area, and Rigley, their rescue dog. Gary and Karen supported dog rescue and invite you to do the same. They will be laid to rest with Karen's Mother Florence V. Altoonian (1925 to 2016) as part of an artificial reef outside Sarasota, Florida at a later date.
