This was my reply to all the emails we received in our office from people giving their sympathy about our loss of Gaylon "Shay-Shay" Fleming:

DECEMBER 2,2002

"Today is my first day back since the accident. I can only say for those who didn't know Gaylon very well, that he was a wonderful person from head to toe inside

and out. He was with us a little over a year and spread laughter throughout our office every single day. When he noticed one of us down about something, he was always able to make us smile. I keep saying things in a past tense but, even as I and Andrea talk about our Thanksgiving Holiday, we talk as if he were still with us. He will always be with us every day and we will smile when we think of him,

how he may react, lecture us, make us laugh or even just walk into the

room. So, I just wanted to share

this with everyone who didn't know him as well as the Houston office. He was our friend, our son, our brother and our child. I can't come close to explaining what a personal loss this is for me but, it goes much deeper than just losing a co-worker, he is a part of our family and not a day will go by that I don't think of him. So Amanda, I know it's hard for you but try to think of something he said or did that made you laugh. He would want us smiling, not crying over him!

I love an cherish the friends I spend most of my days with, which so happen to be my co-workers.

----------

I left this last sentence in this letter because it is very important to remember our loved ones, which includes the people we spend our every day lives with at work. Gaylon is definately our Angel sent from Heaven. He has so many people attending church that didn't go before, including ME!!!

Thank you, Gaylon! You were my vessel and didn't even know it.

I love and miss you every day!

Gaylon has been one of my best friends for over a year now. He was an additional part of my family. The family I work with everyday at Cargill. I told Gaylon everything, everyday, five days a week. I still do, everyday. He might not be with us physically, but he is forever in our hearts. It's so odd to come to work without him here. He used to make fun of me for talking to myself at my desk because he thought I was talking to him and I wasn't. Now, I do, and I know he's laughing saying "You crazy, girl!!" He touched so many lives during his walk on earth. I consider myself one of the lucky ones because I had Gaylon in my life. He is missed and will always be. He is our angel now, watching down on us, doing the Cha'Cha Slide.

To Gaylon's Family: THANK YOU for making Gaylon who he was. He loved each and every one of you so much. He was a product of a great family whom he adored. You are in our hearts and prayers.

To the Family of Gaylon I would like to express my deepest sympathy in the lost of a son, a brother and a friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Gaylon at TAMU, he was our work study in the Financial Aid Office but soon became my friend. I was sadden to here the new of his death and will never forget the joy and laughter he brought into my life. Although I have never met you all I feel like I know each one of you. Gaylon always talked about his family. My prayers are with you all. May God Comfort each and everyone of you.

To Theresa,

I've never experienced the loss of a child, so to say I know how you feel is a lie. But I know the ultimate comforter who is the Holy Spirit that will help you through this and know also my love and prayers are always with you! Love, Dexter

I went to high school with Gaylon. It was a joy to see his bright smile every day and his wonderful laugh. I'm sad to see he's past but I know he's in heaven making everyone laugh.

The hardest thing one can do is to say good bye to a friend, for true friends are hard to come by. They seem to be few and far between, but once you find them they are worth more than gold it self. One can only pray that the treasures they gain via another's kindness will also be given back to those individuals in great abundance.

Gaylon gave of himself selflessly. I will never forget the days we would study for biochem. We would study the information over and over and over, not for him...but for me. He made sure I had breakfast, lunch, or dinner...and if I didn't he always had an extra Big Mac coupon, or some macaroni and cheese with lots of sugared cool aid. Hat's off to the chef.

Aside from all the material things Gaylon would be willing to give (like the shirt on his back), he could turn any rainy day it to a simply blessed moment. If you were down he was there to lift you up. And now it is his turn to be lifted. I could go on and on about how much of a gentle man he will be remembered as, but if you are reading this now...then I am sure you already know this.

I would just like to take the time now to thank Gaylon for being a friend. Now I can truly say that I have struck gold, he will be missed.

Gaylon is an extraordinary person that you would have loved to be around. If you didn't really know him, you would have wished you had. And this is my letter to him because I had so much to say to him before his passing....

Dear Gaylon,

God has a great new angel. I've been through so much with you during the time I have known you. You are loved and will always be loved. I and other people agree that you are one unique individual and I truly feel that I will never meet another person like you ever because you cannot be replaced.

No matter how down I ever was, no matter what was troubling me I forgot about it because being in your

presence made me forget about the stressfulness in my life since you always brought a smile to

mine and everybody else's face. You just have this resonating glow that was so magnetic to other

people. I'm going to miss all the great times we had together. And I hope they have theater

in heaven because I know that was one of your life-long dreams to go to NYC to become an actor. I wish I

could have seen you do that one day because I know you would have brought home a Tony, Golden Globe,

or an Oscar, or maybe all. I remember the first time I met you and I thought 'man, this boy is too cool, crazy, and

off the chain'. Just a caring, compassionate person with a wonderful personality, and who would

always put other people first before him'. And don't let me forget you were a great cook too. And we

also had our own codes and languages. I remember when I would say something in code to you and

other people would be like 'WHAT?' but you knew what and who I was talking about and we would fall out laughing about it later. All I know is that I will see you one day so we can just chill and laugh and have times like that again. There is going to be a great amount of people here that are going to miss your absence because you touched so many lives. But you are in a beautiful and pleasant place right now where there is no pain, heartache,

bills, or taxes. Just glory, happiness, love, and righteousness. I love you man. My best friend. My

brother for life.

Gaylon will be surely missed. I had the opportunity to work with Gaylon while he was a student at Texas A&M. There was never a dull moment, always lots of laughs.

Gaylon and I kept in touch over the years. It was always great to hear from him and find out what was going on in his life and to have a few laughs.

I was shocked and sadden to get this news.

My God be with his family in this time of sorrow.

Words can not express the sorrow that I feel for your family at this time. I pray that God will continue to bless you as you struggle with the loss of your loved one.

Gaylon was truly a wonderful person. I was fortunate to meet Gaylon while at Texas A&M, as with others we were truly blessed to have him in our lives. He was a 'shining light' to all that he met and was such a beautiful person. I will truly miss him.

I pray that we all can find peace in his lost and remember that he is in a better place, although not with us physically he will always remain in our hearts, thoughts and memories.

I will miss you Gaylon.

My prayers are with the entire Fleming Family. My family reside a few houses down from Val Gaylon's aunt and I also worked with him at Bankone. There are very few words that I can say that can be of comfort at this time. Keep God first in all that you say and do. God can not make mistakes. The Lord sits high and looks low , so what ever you are going through God can bring you through. May God bless and keep each and every one of you !!

I first met Gaylon at Bank One, we became very close. Gaylon is one of the most open, honest men i have ever met. He would sell the gifts his mom would make, and made sure that i always brought one. It has been about 4months since i talked to him, i feel truely blessed to have known him. Gaylon was always prayfull and always had a listening ear. He's in a much better place now and will continue to watch over all his loved ones. May god continue to bless you and your family.

I first met Gaylon through my cousin Sergio Courtney. One of my first impressions of him was his glowing personality. Gaylon always seemed to have a smile on his face and something funny to say. My last memory of him was a few months ago when he attended my "Housewarming Party" with my cousin Sergio. As always he was so filled with laughter and joy. Gaylon thanks for being you.

I just heard the news about Gaylon and was shocked. He was one of the first people I met when I first arrived at Texas A&M, and one of the good ones. He always kept us cracking up and I remember us all clowning in The Commons. May he rest in peace, and may the family find God's peace and comfort at this time.

I met Gaylon while he was employed with Bank One. He was one of the kindest people in the world. He was the the type of person that would literally give you the shirt off of his back. His kindness and witty personality will be greatly missed. I will alway's remember helping him sell occassion baskets for his mother. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. You are now in GOD'S hands and he will take care of his own. Your friend for life and now in death. This is not good-bye but see you later. My sincere prayers are with the Fleming family. Rely on GOD Psalm 30:5b Weaping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. I will never forget your smile.

A friend from A&M just called me and told me the news. Gaylon was my roommate in our final year at A&M.

I am very sorry. I hadn't spoken with him for a few years, but always wondered -- in the back of my mind -- how and what he was doing with his life.

Knowing Gaylon -- his incredible intelligence, wit, and constant joy -- you knew that his life would be anything but bad; you always knew he would be successful, happy, fulfilled, and loved.

I -- a thousand miles away -- am crushed by this. I cannot imagine what all of you must be going through in Houston now. Though it is hard, none of us cannot help but think back and smile when remembering how Gaylon made us feel about life, and the happiness -- however lengthy or brief -- he brought into our lives.

In things not understood, lies great strength. The resolve to agree that dawn comes after the darkest hours. The wisdom to understand that there is a reason especialy to things that overide logic. The grit to move forward and yet, honor and never forget. I pray for peace that comes from within. You are blessed.
