Gene Morgan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2022.
Gene Terry Morgan, 71 of Powdersville, SC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he is the loving husband of Patti Morgan. He was the son of B.F. Morgan and Bertha Weaver Morgan and grandson of Sarah Watson Morgan Elrod who along with his brother, Bennie Morgan raised him from an early age. In addition to his loving wife Patti, he is survived by his four children Chad Morgan (Anna) of Easley, Russ Morgan (Kacie) of Duncan, Ali Morgan of Mauldin and Hayes Morgan (Staci) of Simpsonville, and his brother Bennie Morgan of Dacusville. Gene dearly loved his 6 grandchildren and he loved watching them participate in multiple sports. And he also enjoyed many family trips to the lake and the beach. They were the "Light of his Life"! His six grandchildren include Cooper Morgan (16), Hayden Morgan (14), Max Morgan (12), Charley Morgan (8), Roman Morgan (7) and Mattie Morgan (7). He also leaves behind many cousins and close friends. From an early age, Gene loved and excelled in many sports. He graduated from Parker High School in 1968. There he competed as the varsity quarterback of the football team, second baseman on the baseball team, and on the basketball team. Later in life, his love of sports led him to become a member of the Basketball Referee Association based in S.C. High School League District One. During his 20 years of service, his assignments included The Beach Ball Classic and Upper State Championship. He also refereed for many years at Bob Jones University. He retired from AT&T in 2018 with forty plus years of service. Gene's "Celebration of Life Service" will be held on January 29th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mt. Airy Baptist Church located at 210 Mt. Airy Church Road, Easley, SC 29642. Gene donated monthly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Patti and family, I'm so sorry to hear that Gene has passed away. He used to keep me laughing as he would try to take pictures of the kids and the dog (peedee?) when the kids were very small. He always had a good story to tell about one of the kids. I know he loved his family dearly. May peace be with all of you during the months and years ahead without Gene. Love and Peace, Debbie

I have no doubt Mr. Morgan has led an amazing life by the evidence of the legacy he has left behind. Knowing Chad for several years, Mr. Morgan must be proud to have spent his years with his family. May God comfort you with peace as you suffer this loss as He welcomes Mr. Morgan into the kingdom.

Patti, I am so sorry for your loss. I would be at the service but I have been diagnosed with late stage lung cancer and it has spread to my bones and liver. Not a good time. Just know Steve and I are praying for you and your precious family. Love, Linda Ballard

Gene and I were good friends in high school although I hadn't seen him in many years. He was a year younger than me. He played second base and I played shortstop on the Parker High baseball team. I like to think we were a good double-play combination. I remember that every time I came to bat he would yell from the dugout, "come on Al, blast it". We always laughed about that. He even signed my yearbook with "it's been a 'blast' this year. Gene had a good sense of humor and I remember his laugh vividly. I'll see him again one day perhaps for one more double-play. Bennie, I am so sorry for your loss and that of your family.

He's my little Brother and I loved him with all my heart ! We shared the good times and the trials and tribulations of life.He grew into a good man, husband, father and grandad !! But. to me,he'll always be my little Brother, holding on to my bicycle as tight as he could with his little Bombardier hat on when I picked him up at the nursery.I pray he has met his Mother, who passed away when he was so young that he couldn't remember Her !! God bless you son and I'll see you soon !!

Sorry to hear about Gene. He could light up a room with his smile and personality. He spoke fondly of his family. We worked together at Southern Bell(AT&T) along with Bennie. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
