Geneva Youens Obituary

Geneva Ezetta
Morgan Smyth Youens
1915-2015
FORT WORTH -- Geneva Ezetta Morgan Smyth Youens passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Nov. 8, 2015. Mrs. Youens was 100 years old.
Memorial service: Noon Saturday, Nov. 28, at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West University United Methodist Church Music Ministries, 3611 University Blvd., Houston, Texas 77005; or Meadowbrook United Methodist Church Outreach and Missions, 3900 Meadowbrook Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76103.
Geneva, a native Texan, was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Houston, the daughter of Ezra J. and Della Cantrell Morgan. She was raised in the Heights and attended Harvard, Hamilton and Reagan schools.
As a young lady, she worked for the law firm of Hirsch, Susman and Westheimer and for First Methodist Church, Houston. For 26 years she worked closely with the Rev. Clyde J. Verheyden, founder of the Good Samaritan Foundation, which continues to grant nursing scholarships. Geneva's life was family-centered and, as such, she was permitted to keep an office at home to manage the foundation. An unusual arrangement for that time, it allowed her to raise two precocious boys, never missing an event. She was the best den mother ever! Geneva was a devoted wife to her Schotze, springing to her feet to greet him at the door every evening. She was a card-carrying Aggie Mom and member of Eastern Star, Ransford Chapter 135.
Geneva was optimistic and positive, with a deep and abiding faith in God. She was active in many areas of church life, including decades in the alto section of the West University United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. Even in her last weeks, Geneva was gracious, grateful, loving and thoughtful, maintaining her daily practice of lifting others in prayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, L. Campbell Smyth; a son, L. Campbell Smyth, II; lifelong friend, Gerry Walker; and her second husband of 10 years, William C. "Dub" Youens. Geneva and Dub had moved to Fort Worth in July 2004 to be closer to their children.
Survivors: In addition to her son, W. Gordon Smyth, D.V.M., Geneva is survived by her stepdaughter, Kay Youens; daughter-in-law, Joedna Smyth; grandson, Edward Aaron Smyth and his wife, Dawn, and their children, Katie and Jeremy; granddaughter, Carrie Leigh Smyth Sinosic and her husband, Brian, and their daughters, Anna Elizabeth, Allison Christine and Rachel Victoria; grandson, U.S. Marine Corps Maj. William Morgan Smyth and his wife, Reina, and their son, William Garrett; stepgrandchildren, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ed Touchet and his wife, Caroline, and their daughter, Stephanie, Clara Touchet Malina, John Touchet, Edie Touchet Cherubino and her husband, Mike, and their children, Carly and Paul; many nieces and nephews and their families; and a host of friends.
