Genevieve Straughn Hearn

Mrs Genevieve Straughn Hearn, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov 3 2019, at the notable age of 104. Born and raised in Mobile, she graduated from Murphy High School at age 16 class of 1931. She was a hard worker. She attended Huffstutlers Business School. She became the Office Services Manager at Scott Paper Company, retiring after 26 dedicated years of service there. She met her husband, Arlet Hearn, on a church hayride, resulting in a lifelong marriage of 61 years. Genevieve and Arlet were long-time members of Dauphin Way Baptist Church. She was known and loved for being a dedicated wife, parent, grandparent, good listener, counselor and faithful friend, She was also known for her directness and unexpected humor and for being a seamstress and great southern cook. She loved cooking all that Arlet grew or fished and loved flowers and nature. She will always be remembered lovingly. She was preceded in death by her husband Dillard Arlet Hearn, her mother Wilhelmenia (Willie) Jordan Straughn and stepfather William (Will) Gray Straughn, her father Leo Muntz, her son Robert Joseph Hearn, her sisters Alma Straughn Boutreis and Betty Jane Torrell, her brother William Gray Straughn, and nephews Gene and Warren Boutreis. She is survived by her granddaughter Mary Catherine Nance, her daughter-in-law Mary Hearn Miljak and husband Fred Miljak, nieces – Bobbie McGhee, Connie Taylor, Judy Baker, Vicki Ryland, Ellen McCarron, and nephews Tommy Boutreis, Michael Straughn, David and Kenneth Hallman, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a reception during the visitation. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment following in Pine Crest Cemetery. It was Genevieve's request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be offered to the charity of choice.
