COAL TOWNSHIP - Genevieve "Jenny" Salvoski, 79, of 1450 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, N.J. Jenny was suddenly stricken ill while visiting with her daughter, Carin, in New Jersey.
She was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bella (Gosk) Brozoski. She was married to Peter Salvoski, who preceded her in death. Jenny lived most of her life in Shamokin and for a short time lived in New Brunswick, N.J.
She attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Coal Township High School in 1948.
Jennie was employed as a nurse's aide at Danville State Hospital for 30 years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, now Mother Cabrini Church, where she sang in the choir. She was secretary for the Democratic Women's Association for many years, a member of the Shamokin-Coal Township Senior Action Center and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of Holy Family Church in Union Beach, N.J.
Jenny enjoyed visiting with her children and family and spending time with her lifelong best friend, Lorraine Olaf.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carin Bobber, of Edison, N.J., and John Bobber, of Shamokin, Carol and Byron Hoppy, of Schnecksville, and Donna and George Valania, of Hazlet, N.J.; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Susal Salvoski, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, John J. Bobber Jr., Jeanna Chung, Jason Bobber, Scott Hoppy, Jill Hoppy-White, Jacob Salvoski, Danielle Salvoski, Brian Valania, Michelle Valania and Jonathan Valania; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Chung, Talia Chung, Liam Bobber, Jack Bobber, Giovanna Bobber and Olivia Bobber and expecting her seventh in July; and two sisters-in-law, Amy Brozoski, of Harrisburg, and Angie Racilla, of Baltimore, Md.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Joseph Brozoski, Dorothy Setteducati, Teddy Brozoski and Mildred Salvoski, in infancy.
Funeral services were held March 6 with a Mass of Christian burial conducted in Mother Cabrini Church. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Coal Township.
The Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, had charge of arrangements.
