Geoffrey Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2024.
"Lord, I was born a ramblin' man

Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can"

Geoffrey Grant Williams of Raleigh, NC died on June 16, 2024 as he lived - on the road in Paris, with family close by. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and an absolutely extraordinary Pop to his grandchildren. Geoff left a lasting impression on everyone he met - just over six feet tall, a larger than life personality, the kind of person who slapped his knees while laughing and did so often. He was always in pursuit of something good to eat, gleefully asking what's for breakfast while sitting around the dinner table, and most likely to be found in the kitchen telling everyone who came across his path to "eat while it's hot!"

Geoff cared deeply about the world, having spent most of his life working in global accounts. His work travels took him to France, Denmark, China, India, and so many other countries in-between. But even with such a wide-reaching life, he was never far from home and took pleasure in the simple things. In his own words: "Perfect happiness is being with a big group of close family and friends, hopefully with lots of food and continuous laughter whether you are playing a game, eating a meal, on a trip, or just hanging out. Making each other laugh is the big thing!!"

Geoff is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his daughter Catherine (along with her husband, Tristan, and children, Ainsley and Parker), his son Grant (along with his wife, Charlotte, and children, Duncan and Spencer), his sister Barbara, his brother Larry, and an extended crew of family and friends because he cast his net wide and was a welcoming presence to all who knew him.

Geoff was a diehard NC State fan and alum - as his granddaughter aptly pointed out, "some Pops wear NC State shirts, some Pops don't. My Pop wears a lot of NC State shirts." With this in mind, his family will host a Celebration of Life at the NC State Park Alumni Center (2450 Alumni Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606) on Monday, August 5, 2024 from 11:30am to 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Geoff's honor to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (1924 Capital Blvd, Raleigh NC 27604).

"And when it's time for leavin', I hope you'll understand

That I was born a ramblin' man"

My first memory of Geoff is him making a techno-marketing presentation in O´Fallon, Mo. He was an expert in the field of IT InfraXructure. He was always smiling. Made me wonder what he was up to! He was glad to be with people. Sincere condolences on his demise. May the Good Lord bless him and may his family find peace in knowing that he was a very good person. Amen!

He remembered every Detroit Tiger player from the 1968 World Series. I grew up as a tiger Dan and was amazed that he would know those names after so many years.

Geoff was the leading voice at the big celebration of me leaving my position as the head of the Global Strategic Accounts at Schneider Electric and his speech was wonderful and just like him:human, professional, fun and witty>IO will never froget it.I was fortunate to be one of his mentors and will never forget Geoff.

I knew Geoff during his and his BFF Jim Mills´ "single" years in San Francisco where they shared a great apartment with a view. Lots of fun! I can proudly say that I was the gal who first introduced that southern gentleman to SUSHI! His eyes lit up with that first whip of wasabi! He took me to Cape Code for the first time. I´m heartbroken over Geoff´s early passing. He was a great man, husband, father, and he planned his life well and bought a beach house for his family and grandchildren to enjoy. Rest in peace, my friend.

Feels like yesterday when Geoff an I met in Bonn, Munich and Miami and it always was fun (and great cooperation). We became friends starting with beeing competitors Geoff was a great character, somebody to trust, a guy to rely on. Thank for the great time we spend together. Great loss. What stays are so many positive memories.

Dear Family, Geoffrey was always a very welcoming guest & collegue in the Netherlands/Germany; hard work & pleasure visiting the Dutch Tulip fields, enjoying many a meal - chocolate fondue, BBQ, raclette, gourmet etc sailing on Dutch lakes, and we really enjoy the yearly happy Christmas Family cards. Dear Geoff, Thank you for your long & warm friendship - in loving memory, love Willem & Gerla, Zeewolde

My memories have faded over the years, but I have so many of us together having a good time. Canoeing down at Chatooga, playing tennis till our legs wore off, playing basketball till our legs wore off. He liked to work hard and play hard and I know he appreciates the Ramblin´ man words written above. They fit Geoff perfectly.

We were just getting ready to start writing some new chapters and having some new fun. I honestly just can´t believe he´s gone. I miss him dearly.

I love Geoff like a brother..... soul brother that is. We go back pretty much to the beginning. Played on Rogers Place in his carport, in the woods all around the neighborhood and various courts and fields. We ushered in the Beatles cutting cardboard guitars and imitating the band for hours on end. We usually persuaded Geoff to be George since he had dark hair and favored him. We camped out often and ran the streets getting into all kinds of mischief. What I remember most was his laugh. We all laughed until we cried often. He is one very fortunate man to have traveled the world, had family and wife that adored him and lived every moment like it mattered deeply. He will be missed by many and remembered forever as one of my dearest friends.
