George Armstrong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2009.
ARMSTRONG George Wesley Armstrong was born at Whitewood, Saskatchewan, on September 15, 1932 to Wesley and Mary (Stevenson) Armstrong. Two more sons completed the family, Roger and Stuart. After George's Dad passed away in 1946, the family moved to Mary's family farm where George and his brother Roger continued maintaining the land and developed a successful Registered Polled Hereford cattle operation showing in Canada and the United States until selling out in 1979. In 1982, George married Grace Lawson who served the United Church at Whitewood. In 1986 the Armstrongs accepted a call to Moosomin Pastoral Charge. George became involved in many aspects of the Church and community work. George enjoyed many activities including golf and curling. He had much fun in his roles with the Mooseberry Acting Company during the 1990s. Vacation times saw the Armstrongs travelling widely. After retirement they moved to Shields on Blackstrap Lake in 2001 and renovated a year-round home together. Health reasons necessitated a move in 2006 and Moose Jaw became home where they have resided to the present. George passed away at the Pioneers' Lodge Palliative Care Wing on Sunday, September 6, 2009. George was predeceased by his parents Wesley and Mary Armstrong. He is survived by his loving wife, Grace; his brother Roger Armstrong (Margaret) of Whitewood and nephew Dean (Mickey); his brother Stuart (Linda) of Regina, and nephews Tim (Suzie Daum); Darren (Lisa); nieces Jodi Houlden (Barry); and Shayna Miles-Ingram (Jayson); and several great-nieces, nephews and cousins. A service of Celebration of George's life will be held at Bethel United Church, Moosomin, on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Joan Rennie-Laing will officiate. Cremation has taken place and Memorialization will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. All are invited back to the Church for lunch and fellowship. A Memorial Tea will be held on Friday September 18, 2009 from 2-4 pm at St. Andrew's United Church in Moose Jaw. A tribute to George's life will take place at 3:00 pm, officiated by Earla McKinnell. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers they may donate to the Regina Cancer Patients' Lodge, 4104 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, S4T lA3. In living memory of George, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries). Grace, please accept my deepest sympathy. I fondly remember George, quietly, patiently waiting in my living room while you and I arranged my Grandmothers funeral. I am thinking of you at this time.
