George BARCLAY Obituary

BARCLAY _George Raymond (Ray) passed away peacefully at Lutheran Sunset Home on September 5, 2003. Ray was born on April 15, 1925 in Saskatoon, SK. He attended Victoria School and Nutana Collegiate. Upon completing school, Ray went overseas during WWII as an Engineers Writer on the minesweeper Vegrevillei. After the war, he attended The University of Saskatchewan where he acquired a B Comm in 1950. Ray had a lengthy career in the car dealership business. He was Secretary Treasurer of Merlin Motors and the Controller of Jubilee Ford for 17 years each. He was also a secretary for the Saskatoon Autodealers Association. Earlier, he was the Charter Secretary for Saskatoon Toastmasters. Upon retirement, Ray joined the Corps of Commissionaires. In his leisure time, Ray was an active member of the community. He was a member of Lodge Progress and a Charter Secretary for Central Lodge of the Masonic Order. Ray was also a member of the WaWa Temple. He is a Past President of the Saskatoon Shrine Club and chaired the Saskatoon Shrine Circus for many years. Ray was approached by St. Andrew's College to start a United Church in the Avalon area. He formed a committee and met in the Barclay home to create St. Martin's United Church. He also worked with Boy Scout leaders for the Iroquois area for five years. Later, Ray was a member of the Nutana Kiwanis Golden K's. Ray was a devoted and loving family man. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Audrey (Clayton); his children, Robert (Patti) Barclay, Dianne Barclay and Dr. Thelma Gunn; his grandchildren, Andrew and Sean Barclay, Katherine Barclay and Audrey and George Gunn; his brother, Kenneth (Chris) Barclay; his sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Richard Davies; and his extended families, the Scotts and the Smiths. Ray is predeceased by his mother and father, George and Edna Barclay (Barclays' Confectionery); and his sister, Muriel Cartwright. Ray's family is very grateful to everyone at Lutheran Sunset Home for their wonderful care of and concern for him. Ray was an extremely outgoing and happy person. Over his lifetime, he made many friends. His daily mantra was, There is a laugh a day if you just look for it. Ray exhibited this love for life until the time of his death. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him best. A prviate family service and interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Ray may be made to Alzheimer's of Saskatchewan, 307-2550-12 Ave., Regina, SK, S4P 3X1 or Luther Care Communities Special Needs Unit. Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 244-5577.
