George L. Boyette

Garner, North Carolina - A man who was known to cheat death with a mischievous smile on many occasions, George "Georgie" L. Boyette Jr. finally accepted his wings while caring for his adoring mother, Zola Mae Dean Boyette, in her home on Thursday, Jan 5, 2023. He joined his father George L. Boyette, Sr. and brother-in-law Michael A. Ricker, who eagerly awaited his exuberant smile and incomparable bear hugs. Left to remember him is his wife, Kelly Ann Rhoads-Boyette; his brother, Todd R. Boyette (Keri), sister Kammy J. Ricker; his children Garrett L. Boyette, William B. Boyette, Michael M. Mill (Lindsay) and Colette E. Peck; grandchildren Lucas M. Mill and Logan J. Mill; his nieces Madison N. Ricker and Ashley P. Boyette; and nephew Colin M. Boyette; as well as an immeasurably large squadron of friends, the engineering team and coworkers at Kane Realty (whom he adored), and friendly acquaintances.

"The King of Good Times," was an avid collector of reading glasses, flashlights, minor explosives, rifles, pistols, guitars, tools, and most anything else he could make considerable noise with.

In lieu of stress relief in the form of yoga or meditation, George much preferred shooting his newly purchased weaponry at targets in the woods on early mornings (especially while his daughter was trying to sleep), going fishing, camping, and playing in the outdoors, having speaker wars with partying neighbors, making strange noises and voices over Facetime with his grandchildren, exploring antique shops and local eateries with his wife, and going to Carolina Beach every year with his two sons.

George was known for his quintessential southern boy accent and charm, his loud and contagious laugh, his famous hashbrown casserole and "sexy chicken", his immovable spiked hair, and torturing his childhood neighborhood and friends with pranks and dares. Most stories shared about him by his Garner childhood friends are punctuated with, "George ticked him off and then Lott kicked his butt." Though he was affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of Garner", there was hardly a place both in and outside of town where he couldn't find a familiar face.

George held strong beliefs in many things: Jesus is our Lord and Savior, no house can have too many guns, the Cowboys are the best football team (much to the chagrin of his wife, an avid Eagles fan). George was a master of many trades. He could fix just about anything. He also had many words of wisdom to bestow: "Don't let others tell you who you are", "Know your worth", "Everything happens for a reason", and the fan favorite, "How many times are you gonna fall into the same pothole and not go around it?"

Most importantly, George was a fiercely loyal friend, an immensely supportive father, an extremely dedicated employee, a mentor to everyone who looked up to him, and a harbinger of comedy.

His role of doting husband landed him the nickname Precious by his wife, Kelly, whom he never called by name. Instead, he referred to the love of his life as Princess, and his daughter as PJ (Princess, Jr.).
He will be sorely missed by all those who have been blessed by his kindness during his seemingly larger-than-life presence on Earth.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan 13, 2023 at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd. Garner, NC. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 14, 2023 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 3000 E. Garner Rd. #9678, Raleigh, NC. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, US-701 Hwy N/Hobbton Hwy, Newton Grove, NC.
