George Carmody
October 10, 1932 - December 24, 2022
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - George Allyn Carmody surprised everyone this holiday season (most of all himself, as he had just purchased a case of wine) by passing away peacefully in his favorite chair on Saturday, December 24, 2022.
Born to the late Warren and Rosemary (Brown) Carmody in Chicago on October 10, 1932, George was the younger brother of Jack and Warren, who preceded him in death. A lifelong sports fan, George played football at St. Philip High School in Chicago and at Utah State. Not bad for a little guy.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Parris Island, SC, where his first two children, Patricia, and Regina, were born to him and his wife, Alice Regina (Curran). After his stint in the military, he and his family returned to Chicago, where five more children-Nancy, Martin, Tom, Kathleen, and Susan-were added to the mix. A move to Pittsburgh lasted long enough for Brian to join the group before a transfer took the family to Columbus, Ohio, where he worked for Marble Cliff Quarry Co. and later founded the Alka-Ment Corporation. Eventually having his fill of Ohio winters, George and his then-wife Barbara moved full-time to Hilton Head Island, SC, where he fell in love with the Lowcountry and challenged his temper with bridge and golf.
Over the years in Hilton Head, George volunteered with Meals on Wheels and other area helping organizations and made many friends. He was loved by his family, including his daughter-in-law Joanne Carmody and sons-in-law Rick Prange and Greg Holcomb. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Bridget, Justin, Jeremy, Alex, Caitlin, Lindsay, Carrie, Michael, Cole, Maxwell, and Jack; great-grandchildren, Liam, Claire, and Charlotte; and his dear friend Marge Simpson.
A private service will be held in his memory, and the George A. Carmody Memorial fund has been established with Save A Warrior in support of veterans. www,saveawarrior.org. www.Keithfuneral.com.
