George S. DiGiorgio, age 87, of Shelby County, Alabama, passed away on July 10, 2015. As a United States Army Veteran, George served his country with Honors at the end of World War II, as Military Police in Post War Japan and served State Side during the Korean War. After Military service George worked side by side with his parents in operation of the family owned grocery stores. He retired in the same industry after 25 years with Barber's Dairy. George spent decades doing what he loved most in life, working on the family farm, Buck Horn Quarter Horse Ranch. He was a founding member of the River Oaks Hunting Club, a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and a member of the NRA. George was an avid sportsman. Hunter, fisherman, horseback rider, anything involving the outdoors, George was a true man's man. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Constance and Sam DiGiorgio, his brother, John DiGiorgio, his two sisters, Constance DiGiorgio Lusco and Rosalie DiGiorgio Campanotta; and granddaughters, Tammie and Chasity. He is survived by his loving sister, Sammylie (George) Kurtts. He is survived by his loving wife, Eva Pearl and his sons, John M. (Elizabeth) DiGiorgio, Steve Goodpaster, Tim Goodpaster, and daughters Jackie Dudley, Jo (Marc) Tuttle, Pam (Robby) Gleaner Sands; grandchildren, Cari, Marcus, Matt, Kristina, Jeremy, Joseph and Jason; great grandchildren, Victoria, Jeffery, Tawnie, Jackson, Cade, Noah and Taylor; great-great grandchildren; Liam, Rowen, Landon, Skylar and Teagan; nieces and nephews, Felix J. Campanotta, Sam Campanotta, Rita Lusco, Samuel (Lisa) Lusco, Michael (Rhonda) Lusco, Lisa (Drew) Hamilton and Russell (Linda) Kurtts. George and his wife, Eva Pearl, worshiped at the Meadowbrook Baptist Church at Inverness. Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Monday, July 13, 2015 from 6pm – 8pm; funeral services will follow Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 1pm at same location.
