Hammes, George M. Jr. CLARKSVILLE George Matthew Hammes Jr., 69, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany, he was the son of Mildred (Gardner) Hammes and the late George Matthew Hammes Sr. George was a resident of Clarksville for 44 years. He worked for the U.S. Department of Army at the Watervliet Arsenal and retired after 35 years of service. George was a lifetime member of Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved vacationing with his family in Maine and spending time with his two granddaughters. George was an integral part of his son's automotive business, Drive Time. George will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Karen Cass Hammes; children, Tamara Hammes of Delmar and Steven (Lara) Hammes of Westmere; and granddaughters, Maddie and Katie. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. At the family's request, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in George's name.
