HART, George G., M.D.
Peacefully at home in Lake Placid, NY, on May 13, 2014 George G. Hart, M.D., in his 98th year. Dr. Hart is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Paine Hart. The Lake Placid community has lost a revered family doctor of the old-fashioned variety, a decorated World War II field surgeon on Iwo Jima who was awarded the Silver Star for Uncommon Valor, Medical Director for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, a community leader, a breeder of Aberdeen Angus cattle, a musician and lover of history. He was a graduate of McGill University Medical School, 1941. Dr. Hart is also survived by four daughters, Marilyn MacIvor (Rod and the late Drew Shouldice) of Ottawa, Nancy Beattie (John Christopher) of Lake Placid, Ruth Mary Ortloff (Chris) of Plattsburgh, NY, and Elizabeth Barrett of Dallas. He was predeceased by an infant son, George Edward Hart. He is survived by nine grandchildren: Dr. Elizabeth Shouldice (Jordan Clark) and Hart Shouldice (Sarah Fitzpatrick) of Ottawa, Sarah Galvin (Marc) of Lake Placid, Chris Ortloff, Jr. of Buffalo, Jonathan Ortloff of Boston, and Scott and George Pyzik and Hannah and Sarah Barrett, all of Dallas. He had five great-grandchildren. Visitation Friday, May 16, 4-7 p.m. at MB Clark Funeral Home, Lake Placid, NY. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. Donations in Dr. Hart's memory may be made to St. Eustace Episcopal Church, Lake Placid, NY.
