George W. Heddleston Sr., age 84 of Alliance, died at 12:10 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Alliance Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 16, 1924 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Robert S. and Gertrude Woodyard Heddleston and graduated from East Liverpool High School. A U.S. Navy WWII veteran, serving on the U.S.S Santee in the Pacific and Atlantic Theater, Mr. Heddleston retired from J&L Steel Specialties in Louisville, in 1986 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoying golf and bowling, and was an avid Mount Union Purple Raider fan. His passion was his 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Iris (Segel) Heddleston, whom he married Jan. 14, 1945; children, Susan L. (Richard) Diser of Alliance, George W. (Lora) Heddleston Jr. of Tipp City, Pastor Jon C. (April) Heddleston of Sperryville, Va., Sally L. (Ron) Dennis of Columbus, and Patrick D. (Lori) Heddleston of Alliance; grandchildren, Jennifer (Seth) Sutton, Sarah (Ryan) Williams, Geordie, Maecie, and Lydia Heddleston, Jonathan, Chad, Joy, and Bret Heddleston, Amanda and Kristen Morrison, and Cory and Abby Heddleston; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Jada, and Jocelyn Sutton, and Emilee Edwards; and sisters, Kathryn Marrelli and Mary Lee Heddleston, both of East Liverpool. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral home with Rev. John Ferris and Rev. David Hostetler co- officiating of Christ United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 470 E. Broadway St. Alliance, Oh 44601 or Mount Union College M-Club, 1972 Clark Ave. Alliance, Oh 44601. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. Alliance Oh, 44601.
