George Kaylor Obituary

Published by TBO.com from Jul. 22 to Jul. 23, 2007.
KAYLOR, George R., 88, a veteran of three wars, a proud husband and father, a man of faith and a former leader of his neighbor-hood association, passed away July 20, 2007, following complications from surgery. George served his country for 26 years, first in the U.S. Army and later in the Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. In retirement, he would regale friends and family with stories about his military days and his travels around the world. While proud of his service, George, a native of Pennsylvania, was best defined by his love of family. For the past 12 years, he was married to Jean Kaylor of Tampa, whom he met when both were avid bowlers at Crown Lanes. Together they were active members of the neighborhood association at Fountainview Estates, where he served as president for one year. Previously, George was married for 47 years to Eleanor Kaylor, who passed in 1993 after a courageous battle with cancer. Together, they were active in the Association for Retarded Citizens, where they helped organize outings and camping trips that included their son, David, who today leads a semi-independent life in Tampa. George also leaves behind three other grieving children, Nancy Mena and her husband, Demetrius, along with their daughters, Kalima, Kelly and Diana, and sons, Demetrio and Andres; his son, Gerald and wife Vicki, and their son, Justin; and son, Lonnie and his daughters, Kerrie and Sarah, and son, James Dustin. He also leaves three stepchildren, Rosemary Goudreau Stang and her husband, Mark; Beverly Werts and her husband, Bill, of Largo; and Jerry Goudreau and his wife Pam, and their sons, Christopher and Ryan, of Boca Raton. He also leaves behind many friends and his parish family at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. George was a good man, a proud American and a loyal and loving family man. He left a lasting mark on many souls and will be sorely missed. A visitation will take place 4-7 p.m Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home West Chapel, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 8401 West Hillsborough Ave., Tampa. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made in George' s memory to the Memorial Fund at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. Please sign the online guestbook at www.blountcurry.com s
