LOKER, George Ernest

George Loker, aged 86 ½ of Cambridge, went to be with God August 2nd, 2018.
He was born in Galt on February 27th, 1932 to George and Elsie Loker.
In June 1956, he married the love of his life Eleanor Lorna Loker (nee Kramer), spending 58 wonderful years together, until her passing in 2014. He is survived by his children Gwendolyn Humfries (Douglas), Geoffrey Loker (Barbara), Janice Hamilton (Stephen), and Edward Loker; and grandchildren Trista (Shan), Brittany, Luke, Emily, Benjamin, Daniel, Alexandra, and Nicholas: and great-grand child Aidan. He is survived by his brother Alex Loker (Marlene), and brother-in-law Art Stevenson and sisters-in-law Dorothy Loker, Norma Fowler, Ruth Wigg (Eric) and predeceased by sister Lilian Stevenson, brothers Bruce and Larry Loker.
A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School in 1956, George opened his office in Galt and has continued to practice until the time of his death. He served Galt as Alderman from 1958, through 1961. He was also a Deputy Judge for Small Claims Court for many years. Through the years George was an active member of Avenue Road Baptist Church serving in roles including deacon, choir member, and treasurer.
George was also very involved with the Guelph Association of Baptist Churches and Baptist Church Camp Hermosa.

George and Eleanor collected antique pressed glass, amassing an impressive collection. He loved travelling, especially enjoying the museums, art galleries and ancient buildings in Europe, the USA and Canada. Paris, St. Petersburg and Vienna were favorite cities, also. George and Eleanor loved to dance and were members of square and round dance clubs, traveling to conventions as far away as Washington, DC. George loved the music and pageantry of the opera. Memorial Donations can be made to Camp Hermosa or Avenue Road Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 7th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street in Cambridge. A Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday August 8th funeral at 11am at Avenue Road Baptist Church, 465 Avenue Road, Cambridge, with a visitation at the church prior to the service. Online condolences in George's memory can be made at www.couttsfuneralhome.com.
