George MARCHUK Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Apr. 3 to Apr. 4, 2010.

MARCHUK, George Fredrick 3 March, 1925 - 24 March, 2010 With sadness and heavy hearts, we announce George's sudden death. George had recently taken up residence at Royal City Manor where he met many new friends and enjoyed the activities and surroundings. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his sister, Mary Chernesky and her family, and sister Jennifer Montgomery. He was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Alexander Mary Marchuk; his brothers, Bill and Peter; his sister, Olivia; sister-in-law Lorraine Marchuk; brother-in-law, Stan Chernesky; brother-in-law, Jack Montgomery; and his long-time partner, Jean. George served in the Marines during the last World War. He came to love the water and travelled all over the world. After the war he worked as a longshoreman until his retirement, where he had many friends in his co-workers. He was a gentle, kind and honest man with a deep love of his family, friends, nature and animals. In the past few years he was suffering from the progression of Alzheimers disease, although his friendly nature, kindness and gentleness remained constant. We're very grateful to his wonderful neighbors, while he was living in his own home; and also the staff at Royal City Manor for the exceptional care while there. George was thoroughly enjoying his new home and new friends. At George's request, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be interred in the family plot in Saskatchewan at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined with this thought that George would like: If, by chance, you wish to remember me, Do it with a kind deed or word to someone Who needs you.
