FREMONT – George Norman Milton, 89, of Colorado, died July 26 at a Colorado hospital.
Milton was born Dec. 26, 1920 to George Arthur and Ruth (Larson) Milton in Wahoo. He served three years in the United States Navy during World War II as Radarman Second Class aboard the USS WASP in the Pacific Theatre, Third Fleet under Vice Admiral William F. Halsey and earned four ribbons and 10 battle stars. He was honorably discharged on March 3, 1946. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor of arts degree in history and economics. He was employed at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead early in his career. He then transferred to Martin Marietta, formerly Lockheed Martin in Colorado in 1956.
He was a deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Legion Post 158 at Cedar Bluffs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lavonne Cluck; and granddaughter, Chelsea Rose Milton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Dawn Milton and Douglas and Pamela Milton; and eight grandchildren, Kristen, Alyssa, Ian, Spencer, Samantha, Jessica, Hannah and Paris.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Neal Allen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. and one hour before the service on Saturday, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 158 in Cedar Bluffs or the Disabled American Veterans.
