George Nava, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 24, 2025.
George Roy Nava, Jr., beloved uncle and brother, passed away on February 7 at 77 years old. He lived a quiet and independent life on Maple Avenue in Kingston. George was the oldest child of the late George and Josephine (Peterson) Nava. Born on January 11, 1948, at Jordan Hospital, he was a basketball star and trumpet player growing up. He later coached youth baseball and basketball. After graduating from Silver Lake Regional High School, George attended Bryant and Stratton Junior College of Business and transferred to Oklahoma City University. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma during his senior year, but managed to graduate with a degree in accounting. His mother cared for him during a year of cancer treatment and recovery. He later cared for her during the last two years of her life. George was a dedicated worker and spent most of his career on his feet as a cashier. He worked for many years at Tedeschi Food Shops in Kingston and Hanover, and later at Market Basket in Plymouth. He stopped working due to his health several weeks before he died. George had a green thumb and kept a large vegetable garden for many years. When he wasn't working or gardening, George enjoyed watching PBS, sports and old movies, especially ones starring Jimmy Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. He is survived by his brother, Tom Nava of Kingston (the late Trish), and his sister Betty-Jo Rohr of Canton (Bruce), as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob Nava. George will be laid to rest at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
