George NOLAN Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Oct. 5, 2015.
NOLAN, George Andrew
Passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the age of 85, after a lifelong struggle with a heart ailment – he was strong until the end. George is the dearly beloved husband of 63 years to Betty Jean Nolan (nee Mantle), George and Betty's enduring love for each other was the center of the family's love. Dear son of the late Maisy Price and Dale Price. Much loved father of Nancy Tucci (Tino), Stephen Nolan (Cyprianne), Robert Nolan (Rachel), and Julie Lehman (David). He will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Terra, Leah, David, Sarah, Matthew, Christian, Nolan and Bethanie, and great-grandchildren, Luca, Antonio, Owen, and Guinevere. Dear brother of Paul Price (Sharon) and the late Susan Bowes (Ken, and the late Norman Laviolette). Survived by nieces and nephews. George will always be remembered for his strength and determination, providing for his family and love of family. He had a strong commitment to family values, and an amazing sense of humour and the ability to make others laugh. George was an avid baseball fan, and will be watching his Blue Jays in the playoffs, from heaven. His family wish to express their sincere gratitude for the kindness and care shown by the staff of the Civic Hospital, and also to the staff and residents of the Landmark Residence for giving so generously of their love and support and making George and Betty's time there so enjoyable. A private graveside service was held at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions in George's memory may be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

I was saddened to hear of George's passing. As a child growing up in Quarry co-op, George was never a fan of us skateboarding by his yard at the end of the path. After getting to know him more as I grew up, I realized it was because after his yard was a very busy and dangerous McCarthy Road. He was mainly concerned for our safety. George was a very nice neighbor who always stopped by our yard to talk. I know my parents enjoyed these conversations. Betty I am so very sorry for your loss. RIP Mr. Nolan. Thank you for being a great neighbor!

My sincere condolences to Betty and all the Nolan family.

While I hadn't seen George in perhaps three decades, I thought of him frequently. I have fond memories of working with George at Nortel in MOD1, where he was a production supervisor and I was a junior process sustaining engineer. His sense of humour was wonderful! On several occasions I chartered a coach to attend Montreal Expos games (back in the day!) and of course George was always first in line for tickets. On one memorable trip coming home late at night it was VERY foggy, and many of us were quite nervous. George, sitting in the front row of the bus, kept us entertained with his witty commentary and one-liners the entire trip!

May your fond memories bring you comfort at this difficult time and in the years ahead.

Thank you to all our families friends and to our relatives, who have showed their love and kindness over the years. Dad was a good man, father and husband and will be dearly missed. Please remember Mom not just in your thoughts and prayers, but in your future actions. She needs the love of friends and family more than ever. Dad will leave a big void in her life that will be hard to fill. Lots of Love
