George M. Penn Jr.

YORK George M. Penn, Jr., 79, passed on March 7, 2014, at the York Hospital. He was the companion of Wanda Penn. He was born on December 11, 1934, in Gettysburg, the son of the late Olive Mae (Howard) Buice and George M. Penn,Sr. He attended Gettysburg schools and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. "Pennie", as he was fondly known, played for Old York Lions Football League in the 1960s and 1970s. He was the first black quarterback playing for Blue Mountain League, Gettysburg. He was employed by D.E Stetler, Caterpillar, and York Craft. He is survived by two sons, Robert S. Penn (Inez) of Bethlehem, Christopher Penn, Sr. (Lisa) of Dover; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-children, Kathy M. Sexton of Lancaster, Jody Sanders of W.Va., Cynthia Penn,of Conn., Scott Penn of Colo., Victoria Penn of Baltimore, Wanda M. Phillips, John D. Phillips, Mark Phillips, all of York; siblings, Patricia M. "Sissy" Penn Johnson, Bill Dearing, both of York; mothers of his children, Sandy Mussleman of Fla., Patsy Montouth, Kathy Williams of York. He was preceded in death by a son, Alex Dorsey; a brother, Joseph Patrick Dearing. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday at 11 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St., York, Pa. The Rev. Adrian Boxley, Sr. is officiating. Interment will in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
