George saved my life on July 27, 1984, and made it beautiful.

George - I needed to read you obit today and just realized I had not left a message. I met you in 1957. You taught me how to drink in 1961, defended me in an DUI trial in 1978 and got me into AA in 1980 - I have been sober ever since. You were my second daddy, without you I probably would not be alive today. A picture of you looks over my desk and another is in my bedroom. Undoubtedly you are the most important man that ever befriended me. I feel your presence daily. God rest your soul.

It was my privilege to have worked for Mr. Pletcher for 29 years. His kindness and compassion extended to all, no matter their station in life. He was more than a boss. He was a mentor, a father figure and a dear, dear friend. Always smiling, whistling softly as he walked through the office, singing songs (most I had never heard before!), this is the man I will miss. Only a few know that some mornings when he was able to get to the office very early, he would join a few of us early birds in my office to start the day with a prayer. Thank you, Claudine, Tim, Phil, Tony, Nettie, Sissy, Lisa, Peter and Matt, for sharing this wonderful man with not just me, but many. If my heart hurts, I can only imagine how each of you are hurting, as well. You are well loved, Mr. Pletcher. Rest in peace.

George was an incredible mentor and gentleman. The ripple effects of the many many lives he touched continue today. Love and blessings to the family, and grace and gratitude for the life of George.

On the strength of his character and professional reputation George compelled another law firm which had "dropped their client into the fat" to do the right thing and take responsibility for the error. His pro bono inquiry into the matter saved a family from financial ruin.

I met George in 1971; and, in all those years, I never heard anyone say a single negative thing about him. He was a great man.

He was a gentleman, a great advocate and a mentor to many, including those attorneys whom he opposed in litigation.
