George Reed, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 5 to Feb. 6, 2024.
George McDonald Reed, Sr. UPPER A LIFE WELL LIVED

George McDonald Reed, Sr. was born March 18, 1928, in Houston, Texas to Madie Wells Reed and George Lindsey Reed. He graduated from Prairie View A and M University with a degree in Industrial Education.

George married Augustine Hart. George worked at Maxwell House Coffee Company (ironically enough he never drank coffee) before securing a job teaching in La Marque, Texas. He taught in the LaMarque Independent School District for more than 40 years.

George was an expert draftsman and drew many buildings in LaMarque and Texas City. He drew the house in which his family resided and several others on Lake Park Drive. He was a wonderful "daddy" and the best GRANDDADDY to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Men like George McDonald Reed, Sr. are rare. There is no room to write his life story but he is now with his mother ( Madie Wells Reed), his father and stepmother(George L. and Mildred K. Reed) his wife (Augustine Hart Reed) his daughter (Hattie Marie Reed).

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Maxine Reed Vance (Billy), Madia Reed Haynes, and a son George M. Reed, Jr. His grandchildren, Otis Van Haynes, Jr.(Tomeikia) Afra Dawnn Vance, Lia Fanchon Vance -Smith (Mark), Ka'Reada Frazier and George M. Reed, Jr. His greatgrandchildren, Otis Van Haynes, III(aka Trey), Reed Vance Stokes, Raine Stokes, Alexis White, Reese Stokes, Jazmyn Haynes, and Mira Smith.
