George Remmers Jr. 1928—2017
George Remmers Jr., 88, of Freeport passed away Friday, January 13, 2017. He was born April 24, 1928, in Ridott, IL, to George, Sr. and Ruth (Maize) Remmers. He married Wanda Dittmar on May 25, 1952 in Pearl City, IL. George was a group leader at Micro Switch and Honeywell, and was also the owner of Remmers Repair Shop. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. George served in the Army in Korea, and was a member of the Pearl City American Legion, Pearl City Masonic Lodge, Freeport Eagles Club, and Korean War Veterans Association. George loved family get-togethers, fishing, being outdoors, and taking road trips throughout the United States. George is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Susan Remmers of Freeport; sisters, Edna Southard, Marilyn McLane, and Donna Starliper, all of Freeport; brother, Bob (Norma) McLane of Elizabet; sisters-in-law, Martha Remmers of Pecatonica, Mary Remmers of Freeport, Bonnie Dittmar of Pearl City; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his sister, Opal and her husband, Harvey Wilhelms; brother, Lester and his wife, Barb Remmers; brother-in-law, Del Southard; sister, Ethel and her husband, Bob Wiegmann; sister, Florence and her husband, Virgil Page; brothers, Bob and Leo Remmers; brothers-in-law, David Starliper and Neil Dittmar; niece, Patty; and nephew, Earl.
Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Freeport, with Pastor Eddie Eddy officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his name. We will so miss Uncle Buck. He was the Uncle that always had a story and could make you laugh even when things weren't going so well. Was always fun to watch Uncle Bob and Buck debate topics of interest. He would do anything for you if you just asked. His thoughtfulness and kindness will always be remembered.
