George Rose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 6, 2023.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Wayne Rose, 90, on September 25, 2023, due to a heart attack. He was born on December 24, 1932, in Durant, Oklahoma, to the late Roy Wayne Rose and Lora Renee Moseley.

The Rose family moved to the Bay Area during World War II. George graduated from Richmond Union High School and attended Contra Costa Junior College. For several years, he worked for Airco Temescal in Berkely as a machinist and Machine Shop Supervisor. From 1976 until they retired in 1998, George and his wife, Vivian, owned and managed Rose Brand Health Foods in El Cerrito Plaza. Additionally, George had a California Real Estate License and was a member of Bay Cities Masonic Lodge #337.

George was a devoted husband to his wife, Vivian, for over 63 years, a loving father to his son, Jeffrey, and his grandchildren Brandon and Jared, and his great grandson Hayden Rose. George is also survived by his brother, Bob Rose, of Santa Rosa, and several nieces and nephews. His loyal dog, Bogie, was a good companion and source of joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Hooper of Durant, Ok and Lavon Dennon of Vacaville, Ca.

George had many talents and spent most of his time doing home repairs, working on cars, researching things on his laptop and watching sports and old classic movies. His favorite sport was baseball, and for several years he coached teams when his grandson Brandon played ball with the Tara Hills Baseball League. He had a good sense of humor and was a kind man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A family gathering was held to celebrate his life, and his ashes will be inurned in a columbarium at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Grandpa, you taught me so much and I think of you every second of every day. When I moved to Temecula, I could never have imagined to see you only 2 times in 9 months. Through that time I got promoted to a position I know you would be proud of- a Process Engineer. The effort in the skills you gave me and your contagious work ethic put me in a position to succeed. You were an amazing human being and I can only wish to be half of the man I know you were. I´ll never forget playing catch in the front yard at Birdsong, all of the talks to and from school when I was a kid and all of the times I was proud that you cared for and understood me. I love you.
