Although I have not seen George since the mid 80's he was my Big Brother from the KA house when I was a Little Sister there in the early 70's. He and I sat at the Piano Bar at the University Inn listening and singing with Bobby Griffin. Great memories, great guy and the Florida Gators, Gainesville and Golf, his Corvette and smiling face will always be a part of my college days.

My memories of George go back to the 1960s as a teenage golfer at Ocala National Golf Club. George was great fun to play with, lots of laughs and a good golfer as well. Although I have not seen George in over 35 years, those memories with him are still vivid. He will be missed.

Just nice men.

Dear Harriett and Family:
All of us at Wagner, Johnston & Rosenthal were deeply saddened to learn of George's unexpected passing. Most of the attorneys and staff in our office have worked with George (and Steamboat before him) over the past several years. We enjoyed George's sharp mind, his dry sense of humor but with a quick laugh, and his concern for others including all who worked with him. We know he will be deeply missed.

The youth of Southern Marion county truly lost a special person. George did so much for myself and the Lake Weir Baseball program. He just recently made a donation to our program the day before he passed away. I knew him not only as friend of my family's but also as a coach from Belleview Dixie Youth. He always congratulated me every time he saw me. He was truly a role model for me. He will truly be missed not only by me but also our community.

Dear Scales Family,
In 1977 my Dad became the head pro at Silver Springs Shores CC and that started a wonderful relationship between the Scales'. George's thoughtfulness, kindheartedness, and generosity made him the special guy he was. He will be truly missed by us. The memories of playing golf with him, helping him with his swing, and just knowing him will be forever with us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. God bless.

Dear Mrs. Scales and Family ~

I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Scales one-time, but please know that he left an indelible mark in my heart. My family is one that was blessed by the selfless generosity that Mr. Scales seemed to have shared with many. We were fortunate that our Dad had such a kind person looking out for him throughout his illness and at the end when he needed it most. Thank you for sharing him and please know that his kindness was appreciated more then words can express. I am truly sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Harriet and children...We are so devasted to hear about George. Our hearts ache for you and the entire family. I lost my brother... Bruce Griffin ...who also knew George from their years at Bolles and their mutual love of golf. Bruce passed away unexpectedly 3 years ago.. also from a heart attack..age 53. Life is so hard to understand during times like this...I pray for the healing of your hearts.
What a wonderful man George was..he will leave such a BRIGHT legacy and always be remembered for the kind ..caring ..fun ...friend, husband, and father he was. Our Gation Nation most definitely.... is at a loss.
May God Be With You All.

Coached little league in Belleview with George for several years. He challenged the youth and was an inspiration to them. The area was better for having known George. God bless his family.
