George Shamma, age 69, of Duxbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 9th at the Forest View Nursing Home in Wareham. Devoted husband of the late Deborah (Killion) Shamma. Loving father of Karen Walton and her late husband Stephen of Appleton, ME, Susan Sullivan and her husband Quinlan of Kingston, Charles "Chip" Shamma of Duxbury, Allyson Shamma of Duxbury, and David Shamma of Duxbury. He is also survived by his siblings Louise Paparella and her husband Victor of FL and Wareham, Robert Shamma and his wife Alice of FL, Diane Testa and her husband Richard of Hanson, Laurie Leitao of Wareham, brother-in-law Julio Leitao of Plymouth, Teresa Jordan and her husband John of Hanson, best friend and mother of 3 of his children Marie Fontaine and her husband Paul of Plymouth, 4 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Boston, MA on October 23, 1944, son of the late Charles and Beatrice (LaPlante) Shamma. He grew up in Savin Hill Dorchester, and went on to work as a radio broadcaster for WATD, WPLM, and WROL, CEO of Most Medical Transcription, and owner of Duxbury Bay Shellfish. George was a President of the Duxbury JC's, member of the Duxbury Republican Party, and member of the Duxbury Housing Committee. A visitation will be held at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St. Plymouth, on Thursday November 14th from 4:00 till 7:00 pm. A service will be held at the funeral home the following day at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury. Donations in George's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis TN 38101.
