George Smallwood BRISTOL, Tenn. George William Smallwood, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. George was born July 19, 1917, in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Kyle and Callie Mumpower Smallwood, and he lived all of his life in the Bristol area. He was a truck mechanic for Associated Transport and retired from Raytheon. Mr. Smallwood was a very active member and Sunday school teacher at North Bristol Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, India Vivian Hodgson Smallwood. Also surviving, daughter, Phyllis Arwood and husband, Lee Roy; sons, Norman Smallwood and wife, Rita, James Smallwood and wife, Audrey; sisters, Pansy McNutt and Mae Lee Slaughter; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Daina Smallwood, Virginia Necessary and Pauline Kestner; many nieces and nephews, special friends, Glenda and husband, Rev. Dewey Reynolds. A funeral service will be held 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan Moor and the Rev. Dewey Reynolds officiating. The burial will be 12 p.m. on Saturday in the Glenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Michael McCloud and the Rev. Charles Dawn officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Memorial Fund at North Bristol Baptist Church at 46 Church St., Bristol, VA 24201. Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home.
