George Szegedy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2016.
George Johnnie Szegedy age 55, passed away October 13, 2016, surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Webberville, Michigan. He peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom he came to know and love in 1994.

George was a loving husband and father. He would have been married to his wife, Sharon, for 29 years on October 23rd. He is survived by Sharon, his three children; Alex, George, and Rachel, who shared the same birthday as her dad. He is also survived by mother, Maria, his father, George, and his sisters, Angela and Cindy.
George loved good bourbon, strong cigars, classic cars, and loud rock and roll. He was known as an authentic man out of another era; a "man's man" who stood by his convictions and would never do what he did not believe in.

George had a dynamic personality. Those who knew him described him as an eccentric redneck and a clique of one – a loud, intense, opinionated, and strong-willed person. But George was also a sentimental man whose love for his wife and family were something to aspire to. He was firm in his opinions, but open to the beliefs of others, and was ready to hear them over lively, energetic meals. George knew himself as a Christian man before a religious man; he held his faith strong in his heart.

And George was loved by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Church, 1340 Haslett Rd., Haslett, MI. on Wednesday, October 19, at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Wednesday one hour prior at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Pregnancy Services, 1045 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel.

George you and I will always be friends. I enjoyed our conversations every time we met at my Open Houses at Indiana Pontiacs in Muncie IN and our good times together at Norwalk Ohio Pontiac Nationals. I can't believe you are gone. You will be missed my friend. Although I did not know your family only the car guy side of you, I see your online family photos and feel for your family members and share their sadness. We will see you again my friend. Steve Snyder.

I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear of George's passing, my condolences to his family. While it's been quite a few years since we've worked together, I can vividly recall his sense of humor and interesting discussions. He was a man of strong faith, ethics, and morals, and definitely led the life he believed in. Godspeed George, you will surely be missed by all.

Wow. I am in a bit of shock this afternoon to learn of Georges passing. George never missed an opportunity to share his faith and love and care for people. A year ago when my wife was going through a near death crisis he had kind words to say to lighten the mood and the offer of prayer(she has healed since). George was a good man with a good heart and he exemplified the life of Jesus to those around him. I know that we will see him again but not yet..not yet..

George was one of the coolest people I ever met in my life. He didn't try to be cool, he just simply "was". He was his own person, and a remarkably consistent, steady force of nature. He was "Rock" and an inspiration. But, unlike many people who have very definite opinions, he would intently listen to other points of view with intention and respect.

Take this example: If You and George had totally different beliefs, but he knew that your convictions were true and just, you would have his respect, and even his friendship. It is the hallmark of a strong Man who is secure in who he is to be not threatened by the belief systems of others.

I remember when Sharon and George were just starting their family, how devoted he was to being a good father, and a good husband. He took these roles very seriously, and he worked as an Engineer in GM not to define his who he was, but to truly and unselfishly support his family.

I also remember hanging out with him at the house in Potterville while he taught me how to shoot a bow and arrow. He was so technical and detail oriented that he built his own archery range on the side of the house. He practiced his technique regularly during hunting season, almost like a gunslinger in the old west. His reverence for the deer and other animals he hunted, harkened back to a time when man truly appreciated nature.

George made me laugh uncontrollably. I felt like he had the "periodic table of the humor elements" inside his brain, and he would create ridiculously funny moments through his twisted and warped comedic alchemy. And then suddenly, his countenance would change, and he would discuss something very serious, and often truly meaningful. The man could change the gearshifts of the mind like no other. He was a true original!

To Sharon, Alex, George, and Rachel - to George's Mom, Dad, and Sisters - to all that knew him well: My thoughts and prayers are with you. It is truly an honor to have known George.

George, here is to you driving the Corvette in the next life. We will see you in good time, but know in the meanwhile we miss you dearly!

Dear Sharon and Family. Words cannot express my sadness in the passing of George. He was a great co-worker and friend who loved life to the fullest. We kept in touch after I changed jobs from Milford to the Warren Tech Center. I will miss his stories, his advice, and his personality.

I was blessed to know and work with George at the proving ground. I (like everyone that knew George) smile whenever I think of him. I am so thankful for all the times we spent together. George and I spent a little time together in June of this year in Wentzville, MO. For that I am especially thankful. I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for George's family and friends. I pray that everyone finds the strength to get through it. I know George would want everyone to be strong and not be sad on his account. Very difficult for us to do. My deepest condolences.

My deepest sympathies to Sharon and Family. I worked next to George for 2 years in Lansing and we stayed in touch after I moved to Kentucky. We both shared a love of classic cars, music, sense of humor. We spoke last only a few short weeks ago and I was shocked to hear the news. George was a Classic, and I will miss him greatly.

My Awesome Uncle & Friend,
You were the coolest uncle I could have ever wished for. I will never forget your hilarious jokes at the dinner table, you made me laugh so hard! I have such wonderful memories of time we spent together. I was so happy when you took me to my first Autorama and for rides in your Corvette and Camaro. You were a remarkable and thoughtful person who came to my baseball games and cheered me on. I hope you enjoy your classic car in heaven, as there are no speed limits there. Turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO.
I was so lucky to have such a wonderful Uncle and I will miss you so much.
You will always be my hero and my inspiration.
I love you, David

Dear Sharon and Family, Words cannot express our sadness at the passing of George. He was the best neighbor, and truly larger than life. His generous spirit, sense of humor, and complete commitment to the eradication of every ground mole in Perry will always be remembered. Above all, he shared his love of Christ openly and freely which was a gift to those around him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

"Words cannot express the feelings over the loss of my buddy George. The memories are too numerous to count. His words were like iron, strong and true. George stood out from the rest and was unwavering in his desire for doing what was right. He taught us not just to enjoy life, but also to live it to the fullest each and every day."

As Dylan reminds us, a song should defy all of time. My dear brother George, I'd say the same of you. I remain in disbelief that you are no more with us physically; spiritually, you are now part of everything. You live on in the smiles and laughter you inspired -- in the sounds that remind me of my brother working in the car barn in tattered overalls. I keep hoping I might find you there, as my heart is hurting so much -- but I'm grateful that you are free, enjoying a KOOL ride... perhaps Delorean reserved you his '64 GTO.

You taught me the "art" of loud, raucous rock music... from Hendrix to Led Zeppelin... but you also reinforced the importance of quiet humility. That is your essence. A modest marvel and gifted artist with a mechanical mind and immense heart.

Together with Sharon, you made your little sister always feel so special. I love you, George. I'm so sad you had to leave us so soon, and thank you for the blessing of your beautiful family -- we will continue to celebrate your life in that of Alex, George and Rachel Grace -- each so brilliant, unique and special -- like you.

RAMBLE ON, my dear brother...

With love,
Cindy aka "Blue"

You were the best brother I could have ever wished for. You got me through many hard times and I already miss you so much it hurts. I will never forget all the crazy things we did growing up together. My heart is so broken, but thankfully full of wonderful memories. You were one of the great ones, a truly remarkable person that I am so proud to call my brother.
I love you and will miss you forever.

My brother,
I have known you for over 30 years. You and I always shared our thoughts on life and I will always cherish our talks. You were a link to my old life and we always laughed about the crap we used to do. I loved discussing our faith especially and I will miss your views and opinions on just about everything. You taught me so much even in our last conversation I will never forget. Thank you for your words that day. You were so strong and the love you showed all of us right till the end I will never forget. I love you brother. Rock on!

My friend, my brother, my confidant ,

We had so much fun together. Those are precious times that meant so much to me but now are priceless. You will be missed but I am glad that you are with God.

When I see two long clouds in the sky I will know that it is you burning rubber in your Corvette.

I love you buddy,
Don
