George Vallis Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Nov. 2 to Nov. 4, 2008.

VALLIS George Stanley October 15, 1935 - October 28, 2008 Passed away at Burnaby General Hospital after a brief illness. George was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan and raised in Regina. He met the love of his life Vicki in high school and followed her to Vancouver where they married October 7, 1955. George worked at BC Tel for 38 years where he was the manager of Coastal Drafting, a department of BC Tel. The family would like to thank the staff at Burnaby General Hospital for their kindness and care during George's time spent in the hospital. VALLIS - Veronica (Vicky) Olga June 6, 1938 - October 29, 2008 Passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Vicky was born in Regina, Saskatchewan then travelled to Vancouver when she was 17 years old to visit a girlfriend. George followed her and they married shortly after. They raised a family of three children together in Burnaby, where they lived for fifty years. Vicky worked for over twenty-five years in the commercial/residential insurance industry, last at Shaw Sabey and Associates in Vancouver, until she retired in 1996. She enjoyed travelling to the prairies to visit family and also going to her west coast beach cabin where many family projects and holidays were spent. We will miss a loving mother and grandmother (Baba). The family would like to thank Burnaby General Hospital palliative care team for all their loving care. Also, Jenny, homecare nurse, the community palliative team, and St. Michael's hospice staff. Vicky always enjoyed being with her soul mate George and now they will be together forever. "TOGETHER FOREVER" George and Vicky are survived by their children and spouses, James (Janice), Tedd (Carolyn), Sheridan (Lara); and grandchildren, Katie, Byron, and Brittany. Also survived by George's brother Bill in New Brunswick. A Memorial Service for both George and Vicky will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 4th at Burquitlam Funeral Home, 625 North Road, Coquitlam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca .

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the loss of your dear parents. I lived next door to your family way back in the 60's and I went to school with your Aunt Mary. My family loved your family as neighbours and I will always remember your Great Grandmother fondly as well. George and Vicky will always be in my prayers and I will treasure their memories. I was fortunate to know your Dad at BC Tel as well. You were very blessed to have such wonderful parents.

I am so sorry, I reread the notice and realized that both your parents passed away within a day or two of each other. That has been very hard on all of you, I am so sorry that I didn't read the notice more carefully. My, what you have gone through, as I said I only have known Vicki for the insurance information and boy she was great at her job, we had a lot of great conversations. My thoughts are with you at this time. sincerely

I am so sorry to hear that your Dad has passed away. I used to speak with Vicki often as we had everything insured with Shaw Sabey and we spoke about insurance and she often would tell us things that her and George were doing. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. Sincerely, Sharon Brierley(Stratychuk

Jim,Sherri & Tedd: Your Mom and I worked together for 8 years and I heard all about your wedding Jim, Sherri's Art and Tedd getting work as a Longshoreman. Tedd used to try and confuse me when he phoned the office. You will miss your parents as they were so much a part of your life but I do know they were so very proud of you all. Fond memories.
