George Vanovich, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on March 27, 2013, at the age of 87. He was born to Michael and Cecelia (Cantankovich) Vanovich on May 31, 1925 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Joyce Catherine (Rudolph) became Mrs. George Vanovich when the two shared their vows on April 24, 1965 in Port Clinto, Ohio. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army from 1943 until 1968. The Army Commendation Medal was presented to George Vanovich for sustained acts of heroism and meritorious service. After serving for 25 years, he went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service in El Toro, California. George was a member of Mount of Olives Lutheran Church during his years of living in California. He leaves behind his beloved wife Joyce Vanovich; son Michael H. Vanovich, and Stephan G. Vanovich; daughter Nikki L. Callahan; step-daughters Jaye C. Lindsey and Denise D. Kapuzky. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Stephanie C. Vanovich and Lindsey K. Callahan, both granddaughters along with one grandson John Edward Callahan IV. George is preceded in death by his brother Steve Vanovich and sister Mary. A private time was held with family at Ramsey Funeral Home.
