George Ward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
Henniker - GEORGE WILLIAM WARD (69) passed away peacefully at his home in Henniker, New Hampshire, on December 22, 2024. He was born in Staten Island, New York. At age 5 his family moved to Edison, New Jersey, where he graduated from Edison High School in 1973. George was a graduate of New England College. He was subsequently employed by the Henniker, NH, college as a facilities and groundskeeper for 25 years, retiring in 2022.

Construction and mechanics were his chief talents. He had a passion for outdoors---fishing and hunting, enjoyed motorcycling, and was a talented chef. For many years he hosted Thanksgiving dinner, serving up to 100 family, neighbors, and returning college friends with ease and joy. His friendly parting advice to friends was always to "Keep it under 100."

George is survived by his wife, Marsha Joseph Ward, a daughter Kali (Travis) Wampler, and 2 grandchildren, Jolene Betsy and Levon Alan. George is predeceased by his father, George W. Ward, and survived by his mother, Theresa E. Ward, 2 brothers, Arthur and Stephen, two maternal aunts, and 11 first cousins.

His ashes will be released at his favorite Cape Cod fishing spot in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Henniker Rescue Squad, 216 Maple Street, Henniker, NH 03242-6212 or a charity of your choice.

2 photos, I know I have more. The zamboni photo isn't very good. The other photo is from the 2013 Commencement at NEC

George was so much more than a colleague to me. When I think of him most of the memories seem to revolve around him helping other people out or in hearing his stories of the things he did to enjoy his life. He was smart and creative and kind, and that is a combo that is rare. I will miss him deeply. And I´m going to try to be a better friend because he showed me how.

When I started at NEC in 2002, George taught me how to move the Zamboni out of the way and I was so scared but he was kind and patient. He was always there to lend a hand, a kind word, and a story. He is missed and loved. I´m so sorry for your loss Marsha and Kali.

I'm so sorry for your loss. George was a great guy and super helpful. He was incredibly dedicated to his job when I worked with him at NEC, and he taught me a lot during my time there. My sincerest condolences.

I'm so sorry for your loss. George stopped by my work in concord back in October..I think he must have been saying goodbye. Because I haven't seen him in years prior to that day.

Saddened to hear of George's passing. We worked together at New England College in the facilities department for several years. It was always an adventure whether building a vacuum for the leaf truck or building the softball field on Old Concord Road. After I moved to the IT department in 2001 he would often call about a sound issue at the Clement Arena or something up with a scoreboard at one of the athletic fields. We shared a common love of music, Warren Zevon at the Capitol Center stands out. Nothing but good memories. Condolences to Marsha, Kali and the grand kids.
