George Weaver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2025.
George Henry Weaver, 98, died peacefully on April 2, 2025, at his home in Clayton, North Carolina, with family by his side. He was born on February 17, 1927, in Queens, New York, to the late George Henry Weaver Sr. and Mathilda Jane Mertling Weaver.

George graduated from Jamaica High School, Class of 1944. After graduation, he was drafted into the Navy during WWII. He served on the U.S.S. Vicksburg and received an honorable discharge after the war. He then completed a degree in chemical engineering at Syracuse University, Class of 1950, and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. It was there he met his wife, Dorothy. They built a life together in Pearl River, New York, raising four daughters, often called the "Winsome Weavers."

George led a life devoted to service, volunteering on various Citizens' Advisory Committees and the Board of Education in Pearl River, N.Y. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and the Christian Education Program. His professional career included work in Operations and Production Management at Federal Paperboard Co., Inc. in Piermont, N.Y. He later retired as Operations Manager from Book Covers Inc. in Newark, New Jersey, before relocating to Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts.

Following the passing of his beloved wife Dorothy, George married Natalie Taylor. Together, they lived in Waltham, Massachusetts, and enjoyed time in Vineyard Haven. After Natalie's passing, George moved to Clayton, North Carolina at the age of 86 to be closer to family. There, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He quickly became part of the community, making friends in his neighborhood, at the local library, and at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church.

George had an insatiable love for reading. His quick wit, genuine charm, boundless curiosity, warm heart, and playful humor made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was truly one of a kind. His presence wove a gentle thread between hearts, reminding us that Grace, Faith, and Love are life's greatest gifts. He revealed to us the beauty and strength that dwells within human connections. We are profoundly grateful to have had him in our lives.

George is survived by his beloved daughters, Elise Howe (William), Sheryl Weaver Still, and Marcia Rodriguez (Hernan); 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy Landry Weaver; his wife of 14 years, Natalie Taylor Weaver; and his cherished daughter, Joanne Ulmschneider.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 3:00 PM, with fellowship after, at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, 121 E Second St, Clayton, NC 27520.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Horne Memorial United Methodist Church (https://horneumc.net/giving/) in memory of George H. Weaver to be designated for local missions and community support.

George was a good friend and we often had iced tea together in the afternoon. He was a kind and gentle man. I have missed him since his move from Waltham to be closer to his daughters.
We were all lucky to have known him
My condolences to you all.
I can hear his chuckle now.
