Georgia Weaver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 19, 2025.
Georgia Ann Weaver (Winchel), 90, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 6, 1935, in Abingdon, Illinois, to Sherman Winchel and Evelyn Izell Winchel, Georgia lived a life of compassion, service, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Raised in the tight-knit community of Abingdon, Georgia's Illinois roots shaped her commitment to helping others. Early in her career, she worked with the Illinois Youth Service Bureau as a mediator, courageously bridging divides between gangs and organizations to foster peace and understanding. She later built a distinguished career as an executive assistant in Melrose Park, where her dedication and professionalism made her a valued colleague. After retiring, Georgia continued her service as a patient coordinator at a local blood donation clinic, where her cheerful presence brought comfort to countless donors.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Georgia's heart belonged to college basketball, with the Duke Blue Devils as her lifelong favorite, though she was a devoted fan of the DePaul Blue Demons in the 1980s. She also loved cheering for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Cubs, rarely missing a game. Georgia's greatest joy, however, was her family. She is survived by her children Rhonda Pace, Gregory Weaver, Fonda Pedersen, and Daniel Weaver (married to Lisa Weaver); her son-in-law David Pedersen; her brother-in-law Wayne Green; her nieces Vicki Green and Donna Colwell (married to Kenny Colwell); her grandchildren Molly Kippes (married to Steven Kippes), Zachary Pace, Zoe Pace, Samuel Pedersen, Lillian Pedersen, Andrew Weaver, and Patrick Weaver; and her great-grandchildren Margaret and Luke Kippes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Evelyn Izell Winchel; her son-in-law Vernon Pace; her daughter-in-law Jill Weaver; her niece Deena Slagel (married to Ralph Slagel); and her siblings Freda Oliver, Shirley Green, and Mary Darlene Winchel. Georgia's legacy of love, service, and laughter will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

In accordance with Georgia's wishes, no memorial service or visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Anti-Cruelty Society (https://anticruelty.org/), a cause close to her heart.
