Georgia WILLIS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 24 to Aug. 25, 2016.
WILLIS,
Georgia Ann Watson
Georgia was born and raised in Overton, Texas, a small community in East Texas near Longview, on February 21, 1936 to W.D. Watson and Fay Fields Watson. After graduation from Overton high school, she attended the University of Texas for two years and then transferred to Cornell University in Ithaca New York. She graduated from Cornell in 1958 with a B.S. in Home Economics and then returned to Texas and began her teaching career in the little town of Mineola, Texas.

After one year she moved to Dallas ISD and taught there until she met her future husband. They met at Easter and married at Thanksgiving after a whirlwind courtship. Their first home was in Borger, Texas where their son Frank Jr. (nicknamed Buck) was born in 1964. Shortly after that, they were transferred to San Antonio where they lived for twenty years. Their daughter, Deborah Fay, was born in San Antonio in 1967.

Georgia was very involved in her church in San Antonio; Trinity UMC where she volunteered and spearheaded many organizations. She and a friend started a very successful catering company specializing in 50th anniversary celebrations. She and her partner operated the business until the family was transferred to Austin in 1984.

Georgia returned to teaching for North Side ISD in 1981 where she taught special need students food service. This was her absolute favorite teaching position. After moving to Austin in 1985 she taught in the Austin ISD teaching home economics at Keeling Middle School. She retired from teaching in 1996.

Georgia was always active in her church wherever they were located. In Austin they were members of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. She was also very active in the Settlement Home for Abused Children. She loved to participate in the Settlement Home's annual Garage Sale.

Georgia loved to travel and she and her husband made frequent trips all over the world. She particularly enjoyed the river boat cruises in Europe and Egypt and here in the U.S. She always made a detailed and extensive scrap book of her travels which all of her friends and relatives enjoyed seeing and hearing about the various trips. Her last trip was in August of 2012 after which the difficulties of Alzheimer's eliminated her ability to travel.

She became a resident of Colonial Gardens Alzheimer's care facility in December of 2014 where she lived until passing.

Georgia was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a true Southern Lady who was the personification of gracious living.

Georgia passed away on August 18, 2016. She is survived by her husband Frank B. Willis of Austin, their son Frank B. Willis Jr. of Houston; their daughter Deborah Fay Lewis and her husband Alan Lewis and their daughter Madison Adele Lewis of Highland village near Dallas. She is also survived by her brother W.D. Watson and his four children and their children.

A memorial service will be held Saturday Aug 27, 2016 at 2:00PM at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church 7050 Village Center Dr. Austin, Tx 78731
