BOISJOLIE, Gerald Paul Joseph
May 31, 1944, Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan
September 4, 2016, Calgary, Alberta
Gerry was a husband, father, grandfather, favourite uncle and true friend to many, He was an ordinary man who lived his life in an extraordinary way. He touched many, many lives. He joined the Airborne regiment at 17 to the chagrin of his parents and rose in the ranks to Warrant Officer. He served as a peacekeeper throughout the world. A parachute accident ended his jumping days. Gerry then became an accomplished chef, and in the 1980's prepared memorable dinners for, amongst other luminaries, the Prime Minister of Canada, and the Queen. Following his military service his pursuit of the culinary arts continued and for many years he was an active member of the Calgary Academy of Chefs and the Canadian Federation of Chefs de Cuisine. He then was an adjudicator with the Canada Employment Insurance Commission. His several careers were each accomplished with passion. Gerry was a vibrant and fun loving guy, who adored his family, and he considered friends family. Still here with his memory firmly entrenched, are loving wife, Marguerite (Varey); his much loved son, David and wife Tannis (Gulayets); his adored grandchildren, Avyn (4), Estelle (1) and new one in October. He also leaves his sisters, Stella Koenig, Edna Duchscherer; sisters-in-law, Adele Boisjoli, Darline Artemchuk; brothers-in-law, Edward Janis, Randy Koenig, Tony Duchscherer, many nephews and nieces, and Godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret (Robertson) and Moise Boisjoli; sisters, Marguerite and John Rotheisler, Yvonne Janis, Irene and Mel Newstead, Lilianne Boisjoli; brothers, Roland and David; niece, Linda Janis; in-laws Lawrence and Alice Varey and Mike Artemchuk. Gerry left us quietly with little fanfare, but we will celebrate his life well lived at the Glencoe Club (636 – 29 Avenue SW, Calgary) on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with family through www.evanjstrong.com. I sat on the Board of Referees which Gerry chaired, and through him (and his absolute passion for his wife!) met Marguerite, who changed our family's life with her acceptance of our son into her special education program. Gerry loved living big, he was a huge presence on the Board but maintained fairness and was willing to concede to other's points of view when merit could be shown. I, quite frankly, adored him and Marguerite, and know his memories will live on and on for all of us. God Bless.

Gerry led a full life and I always remember the good old days when he had those great New Year's dinners in their home. We will miss seeing him at the Glencoe. My sincere condolences to Marguerite and Family.

I sat on the Board of Referees with Gerry and had many "smoke" breaks back in those days. I enjoyed knowing him and developing a friendship with Gerry. Loved his stories, he told them well. My condolences on his passing. He was too young.

So sorry to hear of Gerry's (Mr. Boisjolie's) passing. I have a lot of memories of him being on the sidelines to watch David and I play soccer together. Hope all of his great memories help you through this time.

We have lovely fond memories of our visits with Gerry & Marguerite. Gerry was a truly genuine , sincere and loving family man for whom we had the utmost respect. We were delighted that the next generation of our UK family had the opportunity to meet up with him during their Canadian vacation in July this year. The photographs of their visit will be truly cherished. With our love and prayers. Ian & Lyn.
