Gerald E. Godfrey

Gerald E. Godfrey, 87, entered into rest after a lengthy illness on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 3 a.m., at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Louise (McDaniel) Godfrey, whom he married on September 27, 1946. Born in Winterstown on August 5, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Minnie (Bahn) Godfrey. Gerald was the owner and operator of Mack's Ice Cream by Godfrey in Red Lion since 1963. He was a United States Navy Veteran, who served during WWII. He was very active with the Isaac Walton League and he loved hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife of 66 years, he has two daughters, Linda A. Zeigler and husband, Curt of Red Lion and Debra M. Frey and husband, Chuck of Etters; a son, Michael A. Godfrey and wife, Michelle of Red Lion; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, John Godfrey of Dallastown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David D. Tietje, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ in Red Lion, officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with flag folding ceremony by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
