Gerald "Jerry" Weiner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2025.
Gerald "Jerry" Weiner, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Highland Park, Illinois, on April 30, 2025.

Born in Chicago on December 20, 1941, Jerry was the son of the late Lilyan and Irwin Weiner. He spent his life enriching the lives of others through his passions, intellect, and generosity. A longtime resident of both Highland Park and Santa Monica, Jerry is survived by his loving wife Barbara and sister Susan, his daughters Rachel Singerman and Sara (Eric) Rubel, and his cherished grandchildren Max and Milo Singerman, and Julia, Lily, and Ryan Rubel.

Jerry earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University Chicago and later received a Master's degree in Political Science from Georgetown University. He enjoyed a distinguished career in Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a man of many talents and interests. He was a skilled bonsai master, poet, and glass blower. A dedicated scholar and collector, Jerry assembled an exceptional collection of Ethiopian manuscripts, which are now housed at UCLA and Catholic University. He was instrumental in sponsoring Ethiopian Jews to resettle in Israel, reflecting his deep commitment to humanitarian causes.

Jerry was a generous philanthropist, recently donating an ambulance to Israel. He actively served on the boards of the Israel Cancer Research Fund, Friends of the IDF, and the CG Jung Institute of Chicago.

Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the conversations he cherished with friends and family, his boundless curiosity, and his unwavering commitment to giving back. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.

Service Monday, May 5, 12 Noon at Makom Solel Lakeside, 1301 Clavey Road, Highland Park. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry's memory to the Israel Cancer Research Fund.

I married into the Weiner family well over 40 years ago. Jerry has been a brilliantly unique character. He has been a Philosopher/King, Protector, Challenger and Beneficent Friend to our family. We care for him deeply and will miss him for as long as our turn on this world lasts. Jerry knew himself well and was true to his convictions to the end.
