Gerald Kranz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2025.
Gerald David "Jerry" Kranz, 89, passed away on August 18, 2025, in Miami, Florida. Born on September 23, 1935, in Yonkers, New York, and later permanently moving to Marathon, Florida. Jerry lived a life marked by dedication, joy, and a strong love for both his family and his craft.

Jerry proudly served his country for four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Boston, the Navy's first guided missile ship. His time in the service was a defining chapter of his early life and one he carried with quiet pride throughout the years.

After his service, Jerry found his true calling in the Florida Keys, where he built a remarkable life and career. For 50 years, he poured his heart into his jewelry businesses in Marathon. Starting with Maria's Silver and Turquoise, which evolved into J & J Jewelry and later became Jerry's Jewelry Rock & Gem, each store reflected not only his craftsmanship but also his passion for jewelry making, gems, and minerals. These shops were more than places of business; they were gathering spots where Jerry welcomed customers who quickly became lifelong friends. He often said he was the luckiest man alive because he truly loved what he did and received more hugs and smiles from customers than most people get in a lifetime.

Jerry's love for nature was evident in every part of his life. He enjoyed fishing, diving, and tending to his lush rainforest plants. Even in his later years, he took great delight in opening his shop seven days a week, not out of obligation but from a genuine desire to share stories and educate others about the stones and jewelry that brought him such joy.

Above all else, Jerry was a devoted father and grandfather. He shared a very close bond with his daughters, Jeannette Kranz Preston and Annette Kranz, who were raised in the beloved Florida Keys. His grandson Jalen Testa held a special place in his heart; Jerry looked forward to teaching him about plants and gems, passing down not just knowledge but also wonder and curiosity. His family was the center of his world, and the love he gave them will remain a lasting legacy.

Jerry is survived by his children, Jeannette Kranz Preston, Annette Kranz, David, Kevin, Bobby Kranz, and grandson Jalen Testa. He was predeceased by his daughters, Linda and Diane, his sisters, Elaine and Dotty, and his parents.

A celebration of life will be held on September 20th at "Lazy Days South" Restaurant at 725 11th Street Ocean, Marathon, FL, from 12:00 pm - 2 pm, where Jerry's spirit will be honored in the community he loved so deeply.

Jerry Kranz will be remembered not only for his talent and dedication but also for the kindness, generosity, and joy he brought into the lives of so many. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
