GERALD HAYES, a retired Senior Vice President at UBS, died February 23, 2015, at his home in Hobe Sound, FL. He was 85 years old. McGinley was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Mary Patricia O'Neill of Merion, PA. McGinley's investment career spanned more than 45 years. He began his work at W.R. Grace & Co. as an assistant to the president, and later worked at Crown Cork & Seal Co. He went on to dedicate 35 years of service to Kidder, Peabody & Co. He finished his career at UBS at the age of 80. McGinley was born in Westfield, NJ on October 14, 1929. He graduated in 1948 from Westfield High School, where he was captain of the football and swim teams, and he received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) in 1952.
While at Penn, McGinley won the prestigious Class of 1915 Award for the ideal Penn athlete and earned All-American honors his senior year. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1952, but instead chose to serve his country during the Korean War, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Throughout his adult life, McGinley maintained a commitment to numerous civic, charitable and educational causes. He was a Knight of Malta, overseeing its NJ chapter for many years. He served as a trustee of Avon Old Farms School, The New Community Foundation and Camp Tecumseh, and on the Millburn, NJ Board of Education. Additionally, McGinley was on the council for the Pennsylvania Society and was a life member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. At Penn, his alma mater, he served on the President's Council and the Athletic Board of Advisors. He also served on the President's Council at the College of the Holy Cross.
McGinley is survived by his beloved wife Pat and five children: Pam McGinley Quackenbush (Scott), John C. McGinley (Nichole), Helen E. McGinley, Gerald O. McGinley (Debbie), Mark H. There will truly never be another in our lives like Uncle Gerry. From his legendary toasts generated from a few notes on a napkin to his preference for punctuality, he was defined by both his gregarious nature and his love of faith and family. He was a truly unforgettable character, my good fortune to have known him. Peace.

Dear McGinley family, We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved father. He was always so friendly and loved to catch you up on his children and their many accomplishments. We will cherish so many memories from the Old Short Hills days, town recreation sports and more. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sorrowful time. God Bless! Kelly Ann O'Connor & family. (Mrs. Joseph J. (Maryellen) Jay, Kelly Ann & Kevin (Pudge)
