Gerald Reiboldt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 9, 2015.
Gerald "Jerry" D. Reiboldt, passed away Feb. 8, 2015, at home with his family at his bedside.
He was born in Neosho, on July 27, 1926, to Florence (McIntosh) and George Reiboldt. He grew up in the rolling countryside east of Neosho and during his childhood literally walked miles to and from school as well as Sunday school (uphill both ways). Before graduating High School, he enlisted in the US Navy serving in the Pacific as a landing craft operator during World War II. After two years of service, he was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on Aug. 2, 1946. After the war he attended Drury College in Springfield, Mo., but left to train as an electrician back in his hometown.
He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Ann Farrell, Joplin on Oct. 20, 1951.
Shortly after marrying they moved to Wichita, Kan., where he took a job at Boeing as an electrician. In 1953, he and Jackie started a family having two sons. He worked approximately 11 years at Boeing then went to work at Cessna, where he had a long career in avionics as an electrical engineer until he retired at age 55. With three long hard months of retirement in the books he had enough of that and went back to work at Cessna as a contractor eventually being rehired direct. He retired again from Cessna in his 60s, but continued to work in avionics as a contractor till he was 65 years old, retiring for good after having worked at all of the Wichita aircraft manufacturers. He loved his family, his job, fishing, sometimes smoking (but always chewing) cigars and eating ice cream, not always in that order. He was always willing to help family, friends and neighbors with any project, much to the chagrin of Jackie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and George; his wife, Jackie; and his grand-dog, Sticker.
He is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Shirley) and T. Kim both, Wichita; two granddaughters Dr. Kelly McCracken, Mission, Kan., and Karen Reiboldt, Prairie Village, Kan.; one sister, Martha "Tookie" (J.C.) Crabtree, Cold Spring, Texas; and three nieces Robin, Becky and Teresa.
In lieu of flowers, his family would like to suggest donations be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
There will be a private service for immediate family at IOOF Cemetery in Neosho.

Sorry for your loss. Jerry was my lead at Cessna. Those were the good ole days, Jerry was always upbeat. It was a joy to work with him. Jerry help me keep my car and motorcycle running. One afternoon after work your dad overhauled my cars carburetor. It was winter, he first removed the carburetor, took it up in my apartment, tore down the carburetor and soaked the parts in my bathroom. Your dad put in new parts. Put it all together, put his coat on and braved the cold while he puts the carburetor back on. Yes, it cranked right up. Lots of fond memories.
I enjoyed knowing your dad and your mother.

Kevin & Shirley, Kim,

Kathy and I are thinking of you, and send our most sincere sympathy.

Your Dad will be missed greatly, but you'll always have so many great memories of him. One of my mine relates to a line in the notice: “He was always willing to help family, friends and neighbors with any project, much to the chagrin of Jackie.”

I'll always remember that many, many years ago your Dad taught me how to replace wheel bearings right there in his garage/shop one evening after a bearing failed on my first boat trailer. He demonstrated the entire process for me, and no doubt also provided a stern lecture about properly packing and maintaining wheel bearings. This while he probably was supposed to be inside having dinner with your Mom! He certainly always was ready to jump in and help with anybody's project.

Kelly, Karen, your Grandfather was quite a man. I'm privileged to have known him.

We're so sorry for your loss.

Kevin and Kim,
I'm saddened to learn of your Dad's passing, but warmed by the acceptance he offered at your house and those afternoons after school playing pool and basketball. We offer prayers of comfort.

Kevin & Kim - so sorry for your loss - I remember your Dad so well and all of the Saturdays he would come to the house - or we would go out Garage Selling with him. He was a great guy - so now & guess he & Dad will be together again in the great blue beyond - I am certain he had a wonderful life and I know how proud he was of both of you. Keeping you in our Prayers Vic's daughter - Natausha.
