GERALD J. "GERRY"
Age 61, of L. Paxton Twp., was welcomed into God's loving arms on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Pinnacle Health Community General Osteopathic Hospital in L. Paxton Twp. Born May 1, 1956 in McKeesport, PA, Gerry was the son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Conley) Sacunas. He was a graduate of Penn State University and was retired from the PA State Insurance Dept., following a 23-year career at TE Connectivity (formerly AMP, Inc.). A member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church, Gerry was a "Lover of Life" and did not allow the effects of Mitochondrial Disease (MELAS) to prevent him from living life to the fullest. Surviving is his loving wife, Cheryl (Kuhns) Sacunas; his son, Ryan Sacunas of Harrisburg; two brothers, Bernard Sacunas (wife, Estelle) of North Huntingdon, PA and David Sacunas (wife, Jackie) of Clairton, PA; his sister, Nancy Yocco (husband, Paul) of Jefferson Hills, PA; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Sacunas of Pittsburgh, PA, Crystal Magon of Temecula, CA, Charlene Cain (husband, Robert) of Mt. Morris, IL; his brother-in-law, Christian Kuhns of Altoona, PA. His brother, Ronald Sacunas, preceded him in death. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd., Harrisburg, PA 17112. There was a viewing from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at ZIMMERMAN - AUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4100 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg PA 17109 and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MitoAction, P.O. Box 51474, Boston, MA 02205.

To Cheryl and Ryan Sacunas:
My name is Scott Rebert and I was in the the Pennsylvania State University fraternity - Pi Kappa Phi - with Gerry from 1976 thru 1978. Gerry and a number of other engineering fraternity brothers interned at AMP, Inc. in Harrisburg during college and obviously had jobs waiting for them upon graduation. I lost track of most of them after college.
I want you to know I had the time of my life to that point in the PSU fraternity and Gerry was one of the main reasons. I visited his family one time in Clairton and enjoyed it thoroughly. I believe his Dad drove for PART in Pittsburgh. I remember having dust on my car the next day from the mills along the river - eye opening!! I believe Gerry was Valedictorian of his high school class. We played fraternity intramural sports together at PSU. Good memories. If any of these memories are incorrect, I apologize. It's only been almost forty years ago. Gerry is the second fraternity brother this year to pass - Jeff Sunday. I'm just finding out about Gerry through Pi Kappa Phi emails.

Ryan, so sorry to read of the passing of your beloved father. You were a devoted and loving son who always spoke so eloquently of the love you have for your father. Treasure your fondest memories Of happier times , when you could bowl together , and he will always be with you in your heart. I am only a phone call away if you need anything. Your Dad would be very proud of the way you have handled everything❤
