Jerry and I met on the first day of Kindergarten, 1946 at Winchell Elementary. We became instant friends forever. Kindergarten came pretty easy for us, Jerry and I. We excelled in finger painting, cookies and milk, and half hour naps.
Later at Winchell, 4th and 5th grade, we were running around with a crazy bunch of guys. Bill Heitkotter, Jim Blevins, Odell Mccoy and Woody Medler. At recess we would chase the girls around the playground. We never wanted to catch them, we just wanted to hear them scream, and scream they could.
One day we were chasing the girls when we heard a whistle blowing, we looked back to see the yard monitor coming to get us. Bill Mccoy and Woody Medler, being a little smarter than the rest of us, ducked into a crowd of what we called the "good kids". So the four of us were sent to principal Johnson's office for what we were hoping to be a good talking to, but no, it was the dreaded razor strap for us. Billy Heitkotter went in first and got his swat, he came out of the room with a frown on his face. Little Jimmy Belvins was next and he came out of the room with tears running down his cheek. He said he wasn't crying but we knew he was. Next was Jerry, we heard the swat and Jerry came out of the room with a smile on his face and said, "don't worry Jack, it didn't hurt, he swings that strap like an old lady." You could always depend on Jerry when you were in a pickle.
We have lost Odell Mccoy and now Jerry Scharton. They will be greatly missed!
Our thoughts and condolences to the family. Sincerely Jack and Kathy Krog

Sincere sympathy goes out to the entire Scharton family. Gerald was a good, hard-working man who was helpful to all. He worked for my dad at G & J Freight and I remember processing his freight bills and pay checks. Special prayers go out to Donna in her grief journey. You were there when I lost Susan, and now I shall pray for you. May God bless you with strength and courage. And may you always know Gerald is in a better place and continues to love you. May happy memories give you comfort and peace in the days to come.
Sincerely,
David & Eileen Pistacchio
